Bethesda has recently filed a trademark that suggests the developer may be venturing into the monster hunting genre, following the trend of other popular studios. While they may not be well-versed in this particular genre, Bethesda has made a name for itself with successful franchises such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. With the highly anticipated release of Starfield later this year and reports of work on The Elder Scrolls 6, it seems that Bethesda may be adding a new IP to its already impressive roster.
Bethesda parent company ZeniMax recently filed a trademark for "GIANT MONSTER NEWS," sparking speculation that it could be their upcoming monster hunting game. This isn't the first time Bethesda has ventured into new IPs, as seen with Starfield and recent releases like Hi-Fi Rush and Redfall. Starfield, set to release in September, will be the first non-Elder Scrolls or Fallout game developed in-house by Bethesda since 2006. More information about Starfield is expected to be revealed during Xbox's June showcase.
With Bethesda's rumored entrance into the monster hunting genre, they will be facing tough competition from established titles like Monster Hunter and its contemporaries. Monster Hunter Rise's Sunbreak expansion, released last summer, added even more content to the already wildly popular game. Additionally, Capcom announced the upcoming release of Monster Hunter Now, a mobile game set to expand the franchise even further. As for the "GIANT MONSTER NEWS" project, fans eagerly await to see what Bethesda has in store.
