Fans have noticed potential cameos of Idris Elba's character, Solomon Reed, in the base game of Cyberpunk 2077.
Potential cameos of an NPC resembling Reed have been reported by certain players who claim to have seen him working as a bouncer in a Night City club, as well as at a bar called 'Malted Iguana Liquors.' It is uncertain whether these sightings are intentionally placed or merely coincidental.
Idris Elba's character, Solomon Reed, is a prominent figure in the new Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077. However, some observant players believe they have spotted him in the base game as well. During the unveiling of the second trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty at the Game Awards 2022 livestream, fans were taken aback by the inclusion of Idris Elba's digital likeness alongside Keanu Reeves as the mysterious FIA agent Reed. This sparked much speculation about his character leading up to the launch of Phantom Liberty.
In the game, V encounters Solomon Reed while investigating a shuttle crash in Night City's notorious Dogtown district. It's unclear whether this cynical agent can be trusted. While Reed may initially appear as a brand-new character specifically designed for the Phantom Liberty DLC, dedicated players will notice that the FIA organization he belongs to was actually mentioned in a digital booklet included with the highly successful Steam version of Cyberpunk 2077. This booklet hinted at the presence of FIA agents undercover throughout Night City. Consequently, some fans believe Reed was among these agents before his initial encounter with V.
A Reddit user named Siddharth_9697 recently discovered an NPC in the main game of Cyberpunk 2077 who strongly resembles Solomon Reed. This NPC works as a bouncer in one of Night City's numerous clubs. Not only does this NPC bear a striking resemblance to Idris Elba, but they also possess the same cyberware implants as Reed. Commenters on Siddharth_9697's post on r/cyberpunkgame point out that Reed mentioned working as a bouncer when he isn't carrying out secret missions for the New United States government.
Interestingly, this isn't the only cameo appearance of Solomon Reed in the base game of Cyberpunk 2077. Another player claims to have seen Reed at a bar called 'Malted Iguana Liquors,' although he can only be seen at a specific point in the game. Furthermore, there are other references to the characters from Phantom Liberty. Another player believes they encountered Songbird, the netrunner who leads V to Dogtown, relaxing in Empathy - the bar where Johnny Silverhand and his band Samurai used to perform frequently before his demise.
It is unclear if these cameos were intentional, but the appearance of Solomon Reed and Songbird in Night City before their leading roles in Phantom Liberty could enhance the connection between the DLC and the main Cyberpunk 2077 game. For example, it is possible that CD Projekt Red initially created a random NPC resembling Idris Elba and later connected that character to Reed when Elba was cast in Phantom Liberty. If this is the case, it would be a clever way to establish Reed's presence in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe even before players embark on Phantom Liberty's main story campaign.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty can be played on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
