Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Loki season 2, episode 3, "1893"!
Summary
Despite General Dox's best attempts to trim timelines, the multiverse continues to rapidly fracture, with newly sprouting branches taking the place of those pruned.
Struggling to cope with the proliferating timeline splinters caused by Sylvie's deeds, the TVA finds itself in a frantic race alongside Loki and Mobius to discover a remedy for restoring the Temporal Loom.
The success of retrieving a Kang variant from the 19th century does not guarantee the prevention of the TVA's collapse. The TVA is already in a fractured state, making the outcome uncertain.
In Loki season 2, episode 3, director Kasra Farahani explains that the Sacred Timeline continues to grow despite the loss of billions of lives. Since He Who Remains' death in the season 1 finale, the multiverse has been collapsing. To save the Temporal Loom that held the Sacred Timeline together, Loki and Mobius race against time, aided by O.B. and B-15. General Dox, played by Kate Dickie, attempts to take matters into her own hands by assembling an army of hunters and pruning numerous timelines without the group's knowledge. However, Sylvie helps Loki and Mobius stop her.
In an exclusive interview with our website, Farahani unveiled some of the major revelations in episode 3, "1893," of Loki season 2. When questioned about the nature of the growing branches, whether they were resistant to Dox's pruning attempts or entirely new, the director clarified that they were indeed the latter. This confirmation highlights the immense number of lives lost as a result of the General's plans, while also emphasizing the continued fragmentation of the multiverse. Farahani further elaborates on the matter:
"It's that Dox did cut, prune, those timelines, ending countless lives tragically. However, the rate at which the multiverse, or rather the timeline, is crumbling is so rapid that the replacement of these timelines occurs virtually as swiftly as they were originally pruned. This presents a significant challenge."
Will The TVA Survive The Various New Branches?
Loki and Mobius have embarked on time-traveling adventures in the past two episodes. Despite the excitement, the stakes have remained high for them and the TVA as they race against time to preserve free will. They are particularly concerned about the expanding timeline branches caused by Sylvie's actions. O.B. has repeatedly reminded them that the Temporal Loom cannot handle these branches. With the help of Casey, a beloved TVA technician, they are working together to find a solution.
Their ultimate plan is to locate Ravonna Renslayer and Miss Minutes and compel the rogue AI to fix the Temporal Loom. However, their search leads them to discover Victor Timely, a 19th century Kang variant. They hope to utilize his temporal aura to fix the situation. However, they must navigate conflicting plans from Ravonna and Miss Minutes, as well as contend with the people that Timely has scammed to finance his inventions.

The conclusion of episode 3 in season 2 of Loki does see them successfully returning Timely to the TVA. However, the question remains whether their efforts will actually prevent the agency from collapsing. Despite being the founder of the TVA, Timely will still have to deal with advanced technology that is far beyond his time, and considering the agency's already fractured state, it might be too late to fully resolve the issue. Furthermore, Mobius's survival after venturing towards the Temporal Loom is uncertain, and delivering his aura to the device could potentially have disastrous consequences.
