Capcom is set to elevate the Dragon's Dogma franchise with the upcoming release of Dragon's Dogma 2. The game boasts an expansive map that dwarfs its predecessor's, beckoning players to explore every inch of its stunning, high fantasy realm. Adding to the game's intrigue is the introduction of the Beastrans, a new race that will play a pivotal role in the story. A follow-up to the original Dragon's Dogma, which saw players take on the role of the Arisen and venture through Gransys with their loyal party of Pawns, Dragon's Dogma 2 is poised to build on and refine the series' hallmark concepts.
During Capcom's 2023 showcase, fans of Dragons Dogma were treated to a developer gameplay overview of its highly anticipated sequel, Dragons Dogma 2. While much of the gameplay remains familiar to fans of the original game, there were several exciting new features revealed. The game world has expanded significantly, with four times the size of the original game and increased content to match. This includes the introduction of new enemies such as Medusa, as well as varied NPCs with complex and reactive AI-powered behaviors.
One of the most notable additions is the introduction of the Beastrans, a new race of animal people. These humanoid felines, reminiscent of The Elder Scrolls' Khajit, made their first appearance in the defunct MMORPG Dragon's Dogma Online but are now an essential part of Dragons Dogma 2's single-player experience. Among them is a high priestess named Nadinia, who is one of the game's most important characters alongside the Arisen and a human archer named Ulrika.
The Dragon's Dogma 2 Gameplay Overview showcased an intriguing feature that allows players to create Beastran Pawns, indicating that these anthropomorphic creatures may be playable. Although rumors have been circulating for some time, Capcom has yet to make an official announcement. This is the closest indication we have received from the developer thus far. It is uncertain whether there will be any other playable races, but it appears that players will be limited to humans and Beastrans. Interestingly, Capcom had initially intended to include Beastrans, elves, and dwarves in the first Dragon's Dogma. However, due to significant scaling back of the game, including the removal of non-human races and locations, this was not possible. With the expanded scope of Dragon's Dogma 2, we hope to see the inclusion of these races that were once cut from the original game.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
