The Jaw-Dropping Role Mass Effect: Andromeda's Companions Will Play in Mass Effect 4

Expanding on the rich universe of Mass Effect, Mass Effect 4 could seamlessly incorporate the beloved characters from Andromeda, bridging the gap between galaxies and offering thrilling new possibilities for their involvement

Highlights

Despite not meeting the lofty standards established by its predecessors, the original trilogy, Mass Effect: Andromeda's companions might still find themselves playing a part in Mass Effect 4, contingent upon the game's timeline and backdrop.

The crew members of Andromeda possess intriguing narrative potential despite being featured in only one game. Characters such as Vetra, Peebee, and Drack, in particular, could contribute fascinating storylines and have the opportunity to make appearances in Mass Effect 4.

Should there be a means to bridge the vast expanse between the Andromeda galaxy and the Milky Way, Mass Effect 4 could reintroduce some of Andromeda's companions. They could fulfill roles as non-player characters, providers of quests, or even individuals who rejoin the player's crew. It is not imperative for the new game to separate them entirely.

While Mass Effect: Andromeda did not receive the same level of acclaim as the original trilogy, the companions from the game could potentially have a role in Mass Effect 4. Depending on where Mass Effect 4 takes place in the timeline, the events and characters from Andromeda may hold more significance than anticipated. Admittedly, there are obstacles to overcome, particularly the fact that Andromeda is set in a completely different galaxy from the first three games. However, with the specific details of Mass Effect 4, some of these challenges could potentially be resolved.

Following the success of three beloved games, Mass Effect: Andromeda faced difficulties upon release and left many fans disappointed. While the game did have legitimate issues, one of its main challenges may have been living up to the exceptionally high expectations set by the original trilogy. It should be acknowledged that Andromeda did create a multitude of new worlds for players to explore, and the gameplay itself was quite thrilling. However, the writing fell short compared to the quality of the original games, and technical problems hindered its success. Nonetheless, the game's positive aspects, including its companions, have been able to leave a lasting impression.

Andromeda's Companions Could Find a Place in Mass Effect 4

While Mass Effect 4 appears to be moving away from the open world concept introduced in Andromeda, there are elements from the game that could still be incorporated. One such aspect is the return of the crewmates, who had limited screen time compared to those from the original trilogy. Despite this, many of them have untold stories that could be explored if they were to make a comeback. However, considering the time difference of 600 years between Andromeda and the original trilogy, any potential appearances in Mass Effect 4 would require a significant time skip.

Although the inclusion of Andromeda's crewmates may not align with the possibility of a Shepard comeback, there are arguments in favor of their return. Several members of the crew are seasoned space explorers who could easily appear in the game, even if they originate from a different galaxy. Notably, Vetra and Peebee had extensive experience traversing the universe before joining forces with Ryder. Depending on their decision to stay with Ryder after the events of Andromeda, they could continue their adventures and, if they were to reach the Milky Way, potentially make an appearance in Mass Effect 4.

Drack may be the most intriguing character worth revisiting in Mass Effect 4, particularly due to his potential impact on the Krogan race. The Krogan have played a significant role in the Mass Effect series from the very beginning, and Drack, a revered warrior with a long lifespan and extensive experience in warfare, holds legendary status among his people. Given the high likelihood of the Krogan making a return, seeing Drack once again would be akin to reconnecting with the beloved character Wrex. Moreover, Drack offers an additional perspective into the rich history of the Krogan. Additionally, his endearingly grumpy personality adds an element of amusement to potential interactions.

Assuming a means of traversing the vast distance between the Andromeda galaxy and the Milky Way exists, Mass Effect 4 could draw inspiration from Andromeda by reintroducing some of its companions in a different capacity. Whether they serve as non-playable characters, providers of quests, or even rejoin as part of the crew, as long as a way can be found to incorporate them into Mass Effect 4, they need not remain one-time characters in the series. Mass Effect: Andromeda propelled the timeline forward, yet it does not imply that Mass Effect 4 will entirely exclude its ensemble cast.

Mass Effect 4 is in development.
