Rick and Morty also utilizes foreshadowing effectively, with the show's writers cleverly dropping subtle hints about future plot developments, sometimes many episodes or even seasons beforehand. Despite nearing the conclusion of Season 7 and the recent airing of the penultimate episode, the show continues to deliver these hints without slowing down. Caution: Spoilers ahead!
How Rick and Morty foreshadowed disturbing Season 7 scene
Season 7 Episode 9, ‘Mort: Ragnarick’ (a play on Thor: Ragnarok), features the brutal beating of Rick’s head to a pulp by Bigfoot, a moment that had been foreshadowed by a future-predicting alien in Season 7 Episode 3, ‘Air Force Wong’.
You see, in ‘Air Force Wong’, Rick’s called in by President Curtis for an important mission, revealing that he’s put together a crack team – including Fleeflak, an alien who “might be able to tell the future.”

When Rick attempts to escape through the portal, Fleeflak warns him with a drawing of Bigfoot killing him. "Wow, great drawing, buddy. I'll put it on the fridge," Rick responds sarcastically. However, Fleeflak's warning comes true in Season 7 Episode 9 when Rick is killed by the mythical creature. In all fairness, he did kind of bring it on himself.
Rick yearned for Bigfoot to bring about his demise, hoping that it would grant him entry into Valhalla, all in an attempt to unravel the mystery of the afterlife. Chaos ensued, particularly with the unexpected involvement of The Pope.

While the episode has a light-hearted tone, the animation team didn't shy away from depicting a brutal beating inflicted on Rick by Bigfoot, reminiscent of Rick Prime's killing in Episode 5. For more information, you can read about it here and explore our other Rick and Morty coverage.
Editor's P/S
As a passionate fan of Rick and Morty, I am constantly amazed by the show's ability to blend humor, science fiction, and philosophical musings into a truly unique and unforgettable experience. The recent foreshadowing in Season 7, culminating in the disturbing scene in Episode 9, is a testament to the show's intricate storytelling and attention to detail. The writers have masterfully woven subtle hints throughout the season, building anticipation and creating a sense of unease that culminates in the brutal beating of Rick by Bigfoot.
The episode's light-hearted tone juxtaposed with the graphic violence only adds to the impact of the scene, leaving viewers both shocked and intrigued. It is clear that the writers of Rick and Morty are not afraid to push boundaries and challenge their audience, and I can't wait to see what other surprises they have in store for us in the remaining episodes of Season 7 and beyond.
