Janelle Brown got real about how her youngest sons, Garrison and Gabriel, have changed since falling out with their dad, Kody Brown.
Janelle expressed concern for the mental well-being of her sons during the October 8 episode of Sister Wives. She revealed that Gabriel tends to deeply internalize his emotions and rarely speaks out, while Garrison appears to be frequently angry or melancholic, lacking the carefree nature he once had. Janelle is the mother of Garrison (25), Gabriel (21), Logan (29), Maddie (27), Hunter (26), and Savanah (18), all of whom she shares with her estranged husband (54). The family's dynamics underwent noticeable changes leading up to Janelle's announcement of her separation from Kody in December 2022.
Last season, Janelle and Kody clashed over Kody’s response to Garrison and Gabriel supposedly disregarding his COVID guidelines. The ongoing disputes — and the boys’ apparent refusal to apologize to their father — led to Janelle and her children observing the holidays without Kody.

Gabriel expressed his disagreement with his dad, Garrison, regarding their dissatisfaction with the handling of COVID. During Sunday's episode, which was pre-recorded earlier this year, Gabriel mentioned that they were met with complete silence and no conversation. This lack of dialogue ultimately caused a rift between them. Christine Brown, who announced her separation from Kody in November 2021, commented on the ongoing conflict between Janelle's children and Kody during the show.
“My kids have grown accustomed to Kody not being a significant presence in their lives. He was not around as frequently,” shared Christine, 51, in a confession. "However, he has been more involved with Janelle's children. This situation is far more devastating for them compared to my own kids."
Christine, who is a mother to Paedon, 25, and daughters Aspyn, 28, Mykelti, 27, Gwendlyn, 21, Ysabel, 20, and Truely, 13, that she shares with Kody, was the first of the Brown wives to depart from the patriarch. Janelle followed suit, and in January, Kody's first wife, Meri Brown, confirmed the end of their romantic relationship. Kody is still married to Robyn Brown.
Despite experiencing both highs and lows in her relationship with Kody, Janelle disclosed in the latest episode that she briefly contemplated the possibility of rekindling their connection. However, following a birthday outing with Kody in May, captured on film for this episode, her perspective shifted.
"In one moment, I instinctively held his hand out of habit, but it felt incredibly strange," Janelle conveyed to the cameras. "I promptly withdrew my hand, realizing that things just didn't feel right anymore."
Kody admitted that he was perplexed about why he and Janelle couldn't reconcile, given that they had successfully overcome separation in the past. "I have loved her before, so I can love her again. It's just a matter of rebuilding trust," Kody explained.
Contrarily, Janelle expressed her belief that their relationship was beyond repair. "There's simply nothing left between us. Our connection has been deteriorating for years," she concluded.
Sister Wives airs on TLC Sundays at 10 p.m. ET.
