Kody Brown's relationship with his wife Robyn Brown has faced extensive scrutiny ever since she became a member of his polygamous family. The situation remains just as "awkward" now that she is his only remaining wife. In the recent episode of Sister Wives aired on Sunday, October 8th, the 54-year-old patriarch candidly reflected on the evolving dynamics within his family following his separation from Christine Brown and the ongoing tension with Meri and Janelle Brown.
"It's incredibly uncomfortable because Robyn is the only wife I am currently in a relationship with, but we have never been able to truly love and support each other. And now, with everyone else leaving, we feel even more isolated," he explained.
Kody also admitted that the difficulties he is experiencing with his other wives have not improved his relationship with Robyn, who is 44. "We are facing challenges with the rest of the wives, and yet we still cannot openly express our love and find solace with each other," he stated. "This environment is not conducive to our well-being."
Robyn later shared her own perspective during the episode, reflecting on the current developments within Kody's relationships. "It has been incredibly frustrating to witness," she admitted. "Everyone is involved in this, whether it is Kody with Christine or Kody with Janelle, and I have absolutely no control or influence in these circumstances."
Robyn acknowledged that at that time, Meri, who is 52 years old, was clinging onto her marriage with Kody. Meri expressed her frustration, stating that there seemed to be very little remaining in their relationship, and she was putting in effort to show Meri that there was still some hope. However, Kody was not supporting her in this endeavor, making it even more challenging. Meri admitted during a conversation about the future of her B&B business on Sunday that she still had hope for their relationship, despite the ups and downs they had faced. She wanted Kody to understand that she was not giving up on their marriage.
During the conversation, Meri's emotions overwhelmed her in the presence of Robyn. Robyn offered comforting solace as Meri became teary-eyed. However, Kody did not appreciate this supportive act. In a confessional, he expressed his discomfort, perceiving Robyn's support as advocating for him and Meri's reconciliation. Kody feared that if he prioritized these women over his strong relationship with one wife, it might lead to a loss of respect from her.
Meri and Kody ended their relationship earlier this year, but throughout season 18, she has been trying to salvage what remains of their connection. In 2021, Christine, 51, became the first of Kody's wives to leave the family, followed by Janelle, 54, in the previous year.
"It's a strange situation to be in, where we once had this large family and it was a significant factor," confessed Kody in a September episode of Sister Wives. "Now, we are left with a smaller unit that is not insignificant and holds its own beauty, but it is not as grand as what we once had. Can I adapt?"
Reflecting on the idea of attempting monogamy, he pondered, "I am hesitant to label myself as a monogamist, but if one's actions define them, then who am I when I am not engaging in it? Is it possible for me to be a monogamist? Can I handle this? It seems like a less complex situation." Catch Sister Wives on TLC every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET.
