The Fate of Kang in the MCU

Jonathan Majors' departure from the MCU begs the question: Is Kang the Conqueror's future uncertain? Marvel Studios faces the choice of recasting or eliminating the iconic character What lies ahead for Kang in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Jonathan Majors has officially left the MCU. The question now is whether Marvel Studios will find a new actor to play Kang the Conqueror, or if they will remove the supervillain from the storyline entirely.

Majors' Kang was initially planned to be the main antagonist for Phases Five and Six of the MCU. A different version of the villain, He Who Remains, was introduced in Loki Season 1 and also hinted at Kang's future involvement as a threat.

Kang's "proper" debut was in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, where Majors' performance was praised by critics. Victor Timely, another variant of Kang, was portrayed by Majors in Loki Season 2. However, Marvel Studios has fired Majors following his assault conviction on December 18, ending his days of playing Kang and his offshoots.

Will Kang be recast in the MCU?

It’s currently unclear whether Marvel Studios will recast Kang the Conqueror and his associated MCU variants.

It is certain that Majors will not be returning to reprise the role in the future. Therefore, if Marvel Studios proceeds with their plans for Kang, they will have to find a new actor for the role in projects such as Avengers: Kang Dynasty and its sequel, Secret Wars.

However, a source claiming to be close to Majors recently stated that his contract prohibits him from being recast. But even if this is true, Majors' assault conviction would likely make any such clause invalid. In conclusion, it appears that Majors can be replaced.

Currently, there are no leading candidates for the role. Fans have suggested actors such as Chukwudi Iwuji from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Terrence Howard from Iron Man as potential replacements for Majors. However, none of these actors are officially connected to the role of Kang at this time.

As more information on the recasting of Kang in the MCU becomes available, we will provide updates in this section.

Will Marvel Studios axe Kang from the MCU?

Marvel Studios is yet to comment on Kang’s MCU future – but recent reports indicate there’s a chance another character will replace him as Phase Five and Six’s big bad.

In November, reports surfaced that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and his close advisors were considering scrapping their current MCU plans centered around Kang. The talks apparently included potential replacements for the time-traveling villain, with Doctor Doom rumored to be in the running.

There's also ongoing speculation online about Kang Dynasty getting a new title, leading many fans to believe this is a sign of Kang's departure. Proposed alternative titles like "Eternity Wars" have not been confirmed, but insiders claim that Marvel Studios is now internally referring to Kang Dynasty as Avengers 5.

Editor's P/S

As a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I am deeply saddened by the news of Jonathan Majors' departure from the MCU. Majors' portrayal of Kang the Conqueror was truly exceptional, and he brought a level of complexity and menace to the character that made him one of the most compelling villains in the MCU. His performances in Loki Season 2 and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were particularly standout, and it is a shame that we will not get to see more of his Kang in the future.

The uncertainty surrounding Kang's future in the MCU is also concerning. Kang was set to be the main antagonist for Phases Five and Six, and his removal from the storyline could have significant implications for the overall narrative of the MCU. I hope that Marvel Studios will find a way to keep Kang in the MCU, whether by recasting the role or finding another way to incorporate the character into the story. Kang is too important a character to simply discard, and I believe that Marvel Studios will find a way to do him justice.
