Xbox Game Pass subscribers are expressing dissatisfaction with the absence of a particular feature following the introduction of Xbox Game Pass Core. Xbox Game Pass provides exclusive deals and a selection of games each month, while Xbox Game Pass Core functions as both the base subscription tier and the direct replacement for Xbox Live Gold.
On a monthly basis, Microsoft reveals the games that will be added to and removed from the Xbox Game Pass lineup. Recently, Microsoft announced that five new games, including Serious Sam: Siberian Mayhem and Venba, will be added to Xbox Game Pass in the latter half of July 2023. Unfortunately, Marvel's Avengers and Expeditions: Rome are among the five games that will be removed from Xbox Game Pass on July 31 to make room for the incoming batch of games. In addition to a varying roster of games from third-party developers, subscribers also enjoy exclusive discounts and immediate access to first-party releases. Xbox Game Pass Core is the newest addition to the Xbox Game Pass subscription model as Microsoft moves towards discontinuing Xbox Live Gold and Deals with Gold on its latest consoles.
Xbox fan Armadyz and other Xbox Game Pass subscribers are dissatisfied with the absence of online multiplayer support in the Console tier, which costs $10.99 per month. The Core tier, priced at $9.99, includes online multiplayer, so existing Console subscribers must upgrade to either the Core or Ultimate subscription in order to access this feature. While online multiplayer was not initially available in the Xbox Game Pass Console, some subscribers fear that its absence now may create confusion for new subscribers.
The recent introduction of the Xbox Game Pass Core has ignited discussions about whether Microsoft should incorporate online multiplayer into the Console tier or not. Some users in the Xbox community on Reddit argue that Microsoft should add this feature to Xbox Game Pass Console, especially considering that Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold will soon be combined into one service for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. On the other hand, some believe that the Console tier should continue to serve as the "base" Xbox Game Pass subscription, as it caters to fans who prefer accessing a library of single-player games rather than online multiplayer titles.
Including online multiplayer support in the Xbox Game Pass Console subscription could attract more gamers to sign up. However, this may result in a decrease in the number of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on consoles since the Console tier offers most benefits at a lower monthly price. It is uncertain whether Microsoft will offer online multiplayer support to this specific subscription tier, but they may revise the benefits of Xbox Game Pass Console in the future.
Regardless, all Xbox Game Pass subscribers will receive a collection of popular titles after selecting a tier. Unlike Console and Ultimate subscriptions, Xbox Game Pass Core will not receive monthly additions of new games. However, Core subscribers can still anticipate new game releases two or three times a year.
