The Most Divisive Change to Marvel’s Spider-Man

Marvel’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales have received widespread praise for their various features. However, controversy surrounded the remastered version of the original game, which even drew the attention of Peter Parker's voice actor. Insomniac made the decision to completely recast the facial model for Peter Parker and significantly alter his appearance in the remastered edition for the PS5. The developer claimed that this change was made to enhance the facial animations for actor Yuri Lowenthal’s voice lines. Despite the explanation, the negative discussion surrounding this decision persisted.

While the original appearance of Peter Parker in Spider-Man was well-received by fans who believed it suited his age in the storyline, the new face design faced criticism for appearing younger and less experienced. Although still fitting for the youthful hero, some compared his new appearance to the high school version of the character in the MCU, rather than that of a 23-year-old scientist. Lowenthal, in response to the ongoing discourse, expressed support for the change, and the updated face design has been retained and will appear in Spider-Man 2. Insomniac's Wolverine Needs a Consistent Design
