When Louise and Neville's brother died suddenly from a heart attack, Caleb was unexpectedly left on their doorstep. Both siblings were unsure of what to do, but thankfully Jackie stepped in to offer him a home. This arrangement brought about some conflicts between Jackie and Caleb, but over time, the teenager grew to respect his aunt. The events of "Parent Traps and Heart Attacks" showcased that Jackie and Neville had the potential to be good parents, even though they had chosen not to have children of their own. Additionally, Caleb seemed to have a connection with Harris. Unfortunately, their relationships didn't have a chance to develop further as Caleb was absent by the end of the episode.

Given that Roseanne cannot be brought back for The Conners season 6, it would be beneficial for the show to bring back Caleb's storyline. Since he joined the army at the conclusion of "Parent Traps and Heart Attacks," it would be logical for Caleb to return to Lanford after completing his tour of duty. Caleb's return could rejuvenate Harris, who has been feeling adrift since her breakup with Aldo, and inspire her to embark on some new adventures in The Conners season 6. This plotline would also refocus the show on Jackie and Neville. While Dan and Neville had a confrontation towards the end of The Conners season 5, Jackie took on a more supporting role during the latter half.

Ethan’s Return Brings Back The Conners’ Best Theme

The Conners has always emphasized the significance of family, and Ethan's growing fondness for Jackie and Neville makes him an ideal permanent addition for the final season. With DJ's absence, there is an opportunity to introduce new energy into the Conner family, especially since the shorter episode count of The Conners season 6 suggests that the spinoff might be nearing its end. However, if The Conners manages to avoid such a fate, it would be wise to bring back Ethan Cutkosky's character, Caleb, in order to maintain viewer interest in the hilarious and chaotic escapades of the main family.
