The star of The Conners, John Goodman, suggests that season 6 of the sitcom could potentially mark the conclusion of the series. Serving as a spinoff of Roseanne, The Conners delves into the daily highs and lows experienced by the Conners family. Originally premiering with 11 episodes in its inaugural season, the show has consistently been renewed for longer seasons, with season 5 boasting the highest episode count at 22. Goodman, who portrays the protagonist Dan Conner, shared his surprise at the show's longevity and while uncertain, believes there is a possibility that season 6 may bring the series to its end. Read on for Goodman's statement below:
Why The Conners Season 6 Could End The Series
I believe we might be nearing its conclusion, although I am uncertain. It has lasted longer than initially anticipated. Initially, it was intended to be just an eight-episode series with a definite end, but they have continued to renew our show, repeatedly giving us another chance.
The Conners executive producer Bruce Helford has suggested that season 6 may mark the end of the series. He mentioned that there is a plan in place to conclude the show if they choose to do so. The hints of a potential ending are already apparent in the season 5 finale, where Mark (played by Ames McNamara) graduates from high school and celebrates with his family. With Mark moving on to college, it is possible that his character may have a reduced presence in The Conners season 6.
In The Conners season 5, episode 22, Mark comes to terms with his stepfather Ben being a more present father figure than his biological dad David. As Ben and Darlene's marriage thrives, there is a possibility that they will move out on their own, marking a significant turning point for the show. This could also provide an opportunity for Dan to reflect on his journey as a father and witness his children growing up. However, while the upcoming season 6 of The Conners will undoubtedly tie up various storylines, such as Becky's new love interest Tyler, it remains uncertain if the show will conclude within its allocated number of episodes. Previous discussions about ending the show after season 6 suggest that this may indeed be the final season.
