The highly anticipated spinoff series Gen V of The Boys has received a significant update regarding its premiere on Amazon Prime Video. Renowned for its sadistic portrayal of superheroes, The Boys has emerged as one of Prime's most successful streaming series. In addition to expanding the franchise with a non-canon animated anthology series titled The Boys Presents: Diabolical, a spinoff was announced in 2020, eventually being named Gen V in July 2022. While a Gen V trailer was released in December, the specific release date has yet to be announced.
Prime Video's Twitter account showcased its current and future lineup of projects through a brief video. In response, the Gen V Twitter account shared a screenshot from the video, teasing the arrival of a new series in September. The Gen V Twitter bio further hints at an imminent release this September. While an exact date remains undisclosed, given that September is roughly two months away, fans can anticipate a specific announcement in the near future.
A few weeks ago, showrunner Erik Kripke announced that the release of The Boys season 4 would be delayed until the resolution of the writers' strike, despite having completed filming. This prompted concerns among fans regarding the potential impact on the release of Gen V. However, despite Kripke's heavy involvement, the spinoff has different showrunners and will proceed with its release even amid the ongoing writers' strike.
However, the actors' strike will indirectly impact Gen V. Although Prime Video does not require actors for any further filming related to the series, they are unable to participate in promotions due to the strike. This means they cannot attend premieres or the San Diego Comic-Con, conduct interviews, or film promotional videos. As a result, the exact release date for Gen V has not been announced, with hopes that the actors' strike will be swiftly resolved to allow for the series' promotion.
Gen V is set to unfold at Godolkin University, also known as God U, a prestigious institution for supes operated by Vought International. The series revolves around the competition among students to secure lucrative contracts in top cities, incorporating elements reminiscent of The Hunger Games. The creators have emphasized that Gen V will resemble The Boys in its audacious satire, but the youthful characters' involvement promises even more shocking scenes compared to the fans' previous experience with the show.
Gen V is scheduled to premiere in September 2023 on Amazon Prime Video.
