The original cast of The Boys welcomes the new Gen V cast with a middle finger, but it's unclear if they are speaking as actors or characters.
The video showcases different cast members providing conflicting advice, which further adds to the perplexity about whether they are speaking as themselves or their characters.
In Gen V, a new team of young superhumans is introduced, potentially exposing the corrupt practices of Vought. This fresh perspective aligns with the tone of The Boys.
With the highly anticipated release of the Gen V spinoff of The Boys just days away, the original cast found a unique way to embrace the newcomers - by playfully flipping them off. In a video filled with contradictory advice, it remains ambiguous whether it is the actors themselves or the characters they portray offering guidance to the new generation. The video begins with each person extending their congratulations to the fresh Gen V cast members for joining The Boys universe, accompanied by their signature middle finger gesture. Following this, the newbies receive a dose of "words of wisdom" from the original cast, leaving uncertainty as to whether it is the actors or the characters speaking to them.
The video features Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Annie, Antony Starr as Homelander, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Colby Minifie as Ashley, Claudia Domit as Victoria, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, and Cameron Crovetti as Ryan. The video intentionally creates confusion as Quaid discusses the teasers from the footage, indicating that he is speaking, while Minifie talks about refusing to clean up the messes of the young supes, giving the impression that she is playing Ashley. Additionally, Fukuhara, who portrays a non-speaking character, offers advice about Vought, while Ashley, the CEO of Vought, provides contradictory advice about the company.
Whether they are portraying themselves or the characters they play, the advice they give aligns with the dark and gruesome tone of The Boys. It also highlights the corruption within Vought, which is likely to impact Godolkin University, also known as GodU. Interestingly, Quaid receives recognition from Jaz Sinclair, a star from Gen V, whom he advised on how to navigate the crazy and disturbing shenanigans of the show.
Fans should anticipate Gen V with excitement because this time, it won't be a group of skilled anti-supe individuals revealing the hidden truths of Vought. Instead, the young supes themselves might discover the flaws within their university. This could lead to a better future for the world, as the superheroes in this universe may avoid becoming celebrities with a dark past, unlike the characters in The Boys. If Starlight, with her pure intentions, can uncover the inner workings of Vought, then the supes who follow in her footsteps can do the same, especially after her actions in season 3.
We hope that Gen V brings something fresh to the table. It introduces a new environment with a different group of superheroes. However, they need to maintain the tone of The Boys universe while also delivering innovative content, which may be a challenging task considering the high standards set by its predecessor. Nevertheless, they deserve the benefit of the doubt because if The Boys can consistently remain captivating for three seasons, their spinoffs can do the same.
Gen V will premiere on Amazon Prime on September 29, 2023.
