The Apothecary Diaries is a Japanese light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Touko Shino. It originally debuted online in 2011 on Shōsetsuka ni Narō before being acquired by Shufunotomo and published as a standalone novel, eventually expanding into a series.

The series revolves around Maomao, a 17-year-old girl who was kidnapped and made to work as a servant in the emperor's palace in China. One day, she discovered that the emperor's twins were sick and used her skills as a pharmacist from her time in the red light district to help them. Despite her desire to remain anonymous, Jinshi recognized her abilities, leading Maomao to rise in prominence within the emperor's inner court.
