The rumors about Swift and Kelce started swirling in July 2023, when the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs revealed that he had tried to ask Swift out after attending her Eras Tour.

Travis expressed his disappointment about not being able to personally give one of the bracelets he made for her. He shared this during an episode of the "New Heights" podcast, which he cohosts with his brother Jason Kelce. Due to the fact that Swift does not participate in meet and greets before or after her shows, Travis was unable to hand her a bracelet with his phone number on it.

Later on, Swift demonstrated her interest in Travis by accepting an invitation to attend a Chiefs vs. Chicago Bears game in September 2023. During the game, she sported a Chiefs jacket and enthusiastically cheered for Travis alongside his mom, Donna Kelce.

The following month, a source close to the couple revealed, "They are extremely content. While they haven't explicitly uttered the words 'I love you' yet, it is evident to their close circle that they are progressing towards that level of emotional connection."
