The conclusion of Thor: Love and Thunder left fans excited with the promise of Thor's return. However, this news took both director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth by surprise. Hemsworth, who has portrayed the character for more than ten years, even expressed concern about overstaying his welcome. Nevertheless, it seems that Thor 5 is still in the works.
Waititi, in an interview with Inverse, revealed that discussions are ongoing between Hemsworth and Marvel regarding a fifth Thor movie. However, Waititi personally expressed his need for a break and is determined to step away from directing the next installment.
According to Waititi, working on these films for two and a half years without a break is extremely draining. Despite this, he already has a lot on his plate, including the sports-comedy Next Goal Wins, the adaptation of the anime classic Akira, the adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro bestseller Klara and the Sun, and a mysterious Star Wars project.
In other news, Hemsworth is in talks with the studio to once again play the role of the thunder god, which would mark his 11th appearance as the character in the MCU. He will also be starring in the upcoming Netflix action movie Extraction 2.
As for Wakiti returning to Marvel, the director hasn't completely ruled that out. "It's just about when I would be able to fit that in," he added.

As a hard fan of Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth, I'm thrilled to hear the news that Thor 5 is in the works. Taika Waititi's unique vision and comedic touch have brought new life to the Thor franchise, and I can't wait to see what he has in store for the next installment. Chris Hemsworth has also been a fantastic Thor, bringing both humor and pathos to the role. I'm excited to see him continue to explore the character and his journey in the MCU.
While I understand Taika Waititi's desire to take a break from directing the next Thor movie, I'm hopeful that he will return to the franchise in the future. He has a clear passion for the character and the MCU, and I believe he still has a lot to offer the franchise. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing what other projects he takes on, such as the sports-comedy Next Goal Wins, the adaptation of the anime classic Akira, and the adaptation of the Kazuo Ishiguro bestseller Klara and the Sun.
