SZA openly talked about her choice to remove her breast implants. The 34-year-old singer explained on the “SHE MD” podcast episode on Friday, March 8, that she decided to do so because of the high risk of breast cancer. She mentioned having metal markers in her breasts for fibrosis, which made getting breast implants not recommended for her.
SZA shared that her mother had battled breast cancer in the past, and her aunt had undergone a mastectomy. Following her plastic surgery procedure, SZA discovered that she had a 53 percent chance of developing breast cancer due to her family's medical history.
During the surgery, the doctor removed some of SZA's fibrosis, which was more extensive than expected. As a result, many of her worries were alleviated after the procedure.
SZA wanted to address her concerns before making a decision. She mentioned, “I prefer consulting with someone spiritual, especially regarding my breast cancer situation and the marker before receiving the biopsy results. I spoke to someone because I needed to understand what was happening in the higher realms.”

The singer was originally meant to see a doctor before getting her implants, but she “snuck” away and “got it anyways.”
In the past, SZA hasn’t been shy about talking about her experiences with plastic surgery. She shared that she got breast implants, but they ended up causing her pain due to too much scar tissue. Because her breasts are naturally dense, she wasn't supposed to have implants. The situation led to extra fibrosis and discomfort. Eventually, she decided to have the implants removed, and now she is content with her natural breasts.
SZA also mentioned in a 2023 interview with Elle magazine that she had a Brazilian butt lift. She humorously compared her butt to a purse, saying it's there to enhance her overall appearance.
SZA explained that she decided to pay for the procedure because it effectively works on its own. She expressed her desire for a fuller buttocks with minimal time spent at the gym, emphasizing that her decision was based on personal preference rather than industry standards.
Following her success at the 2024 Grammys, SZA shared details about her medical journey. She began the year on a high note by winning the Best R&B Song award at the prestigious event.
During her acceptance speech, she expressed feeling overwhelmed and unable to believe how far she had come. She also mentioned feeling like it was all unreal before turning to Taylor Swift and saying, "Hi, Taylor, I love you."

SZA's decision to remove her breast implants is a testament to her courage and awareness of her own health risks. Her family's history of breast cancer and her own dense breasts made the presence of implants a significant threat to her well-being. By choosing to prioritize her health, SZA has set an example for others who may be facing similar choices.
SZA's transparency about her plastic surgery experiences is also commendable. By sharing her journey, she is helping to reduce the stigma surrounding cosmetic procedures and encouraging others to make informed decisions about their bodies. Her willingness to discuss her own struggles and imperfections humanizes her and makes her music even more relatable. SZA's journey serves as a reminder that everyone has their own unique path and that self-acceptance and body positivity are essential for overall well-being.
