Originally conceived as a spinoff focusing on the character Echo from Hawkeye, the series will center around the eponymous character. Echo, a deaf Native American with exceptional combat skills, will navigate the aftermath of the events in Hawkeye, exploring her identity and reconnecting with her loved ones. Marvel Studios announced in May 2023 that Alaqua Cox will be reprising the role, further advancing representation for deaf people of color on screen.

Despite being close to its rumored release date, Echo was one of two Marvel Studios projects missing from a Disney release schedule, leading many to believe that it might be delayed. However, a recent report from TVLine has confirmed that Echo will still be released as planned, much to the delight of fans. In response to inquiries about the show, the official statement stated, “There was rampant speculation about the Hawkeye offshoot's fate, fueled by the omission of the show from the 'Key Upcoming Disney+ Releases' on an earnings call chart. It's important to note that the chart was clearly labeled as 'not exhaustive.' However, I can confirm that as of press time, the Nov. 29 drop date remains unchanged for Echo, which will be released in a binge-style format."

The concern surrounding the release date of Echo was justified, as it was pushed back to late 2023 from its originally planned release window. The exclusion of the show from comprehensive listings is unfortunate, considering its significance within the MCU and its main character's exploration of Native American heritage.

Furthermore, the series has reportedly faced more production issues than other Marvel Studios shows, although details have not been provided. This has troubled fans who were eagerly anticipating a high-quality show. Despite these challenges, Echo would greatly benefit from increased promotion and a strong initial performance to combat the waning interest and critical skepticism towards the superhero genre as a whole, especially within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
