The file size for the Switch version of Red Dead Redemption has been unveiled, confirming that players will require 11.4 GB of available storage to install the game. With a Metacritic score of 95, Red Dead Redemption is among the highest-rated games of the PS3 and Xbox One era.
Rockstar Games recently announced that Red Dead Redemption will launch on August 17 for PS4 and Switch, making it available on relatively newer platforms. Previous rumors suggested that the game would undergo remastering or be remade for modern systems, but it appears that it will simply be ported to these devices. By revealing the file size of the Switch version, users now have a better understanding of the necessary free space.
As per Nintendo Life, the Nintendo Switch eShop and website have provided details confirming that Red Dead Redemption will require 11.4 GB of storage space on the console. Notably, this version of the game includes the highly acclaimed Undead Nightmare DLC. It is important to mention that the Switch and PS4 versions of the game will not include the online multiplayer component.
11.4 GB is a reasonable size for games on the Nintendo Switch, especially compared to the storage requirements of some current-generation titles. For example, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom takes up 15.9 GB and Bayonetta 3 requires 15 GB. It is unknown how the file size of the PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption compares to the Switch edition, which will be interesting to see.
The announcement of the port of Red Dead Redemption received backlash from players, as there was a lot of hype for a potential remake. Fans expressed their disappointment by flooding the game's reveal trailer with dislikes. One of the main issues was the asking price of $49.99 for what seems to be a port. Additionally, some fans were disappointed by the lack of a native PS5 version and the absence of a PC release.
Red Dead Redemption is out now for PS3 and Xbox 360 with PS4 and Switch versions releasing August 17.
