The 2023 Emmy nominations revealed both surprising and predictable snubs among actors and TV shows. Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy Chairman Frank Scherma announced the nominees for the 75th annual Emmy Awards through a live stream on Wednesday, July 12. Familiar contenders like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Succession secured nominations in major categories yet again, with the addition of unexpected titles like Andor and Jury Duty. Nonetheless, certain performers and shows were completely disregarded, highlighting the disappointments of being overlooked.
Elizabeth Olsen
Love & Death was not predicted to have a significant presence at the Emmys. However, one would assume that if the TV Academy were to nominate a cast member, it would undoubtedly be Elizabeth Olsen, correct? Surprisingly, that is not the case. Jesse Plemons received a nomination for his portrayal of Allan Gore, while Olsen's performance as murderer Candy Montgomery was completely overlooked.

Sophie Nélisse
Yellowjackets has received nominations for Outstanding Drama and Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series. Additionally, Melanie Lynskey has been recognized with a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Adult Shauna. While the entire cast of Yellowjackets deserves recognition, there is strong expectation that Nélisse will also be nominated for her remarkable performance as Young Shauna in the season 2 birthing scene.
Harrison Ford
Despite his hilarious performance in Shrinking, it is surprising to see that the actor was overlooked for the Emmys. He deserved recognition for his exceptional work in both Shrinking and the Yellowstone spinoff 1923. Given the track record of Yellowstone with the Emmys, it was anticipated that he would be acknowledged for his role in the Apple TV+ series.
‘Yellowstone’
Once again snubbed, the beloved Western drama remains one of the most-watched TV series. However, it received no recognition at the Emmys for the fifth consecutive time. Not a single acting or technical nomination was granted to the show, and even its spinoffs were completely overlooked.

The ‘House of the Dragon’ Cast
While the Game of Thrones prequel is nominated for best drama, none of the cast members received a nomination. From Paddy Considine's exceptional portrayal of King Viserys to Olivia Cooke's masterful performance as the calculating Alicent Hightower, and Emma D'Arcy's captivating transformation as Princess Rhaenyra, all of these actors deserved recognition at the Emmys. It is truly surprising that they were all overlooked.
‘A Small Light’
The National Geographic series, centering around Miep Gies (portrayed by Bel Powley), the courageous woman responsible for concealing the Frank family and safeguarding Anne Frank's renowned diary, showcased exceptional performances and outstanding writing. It should have been an undeniable choice to nominate this remarkable series for the prestigious distinction of Outstanding Limited Series, with Powley herself deserving recognition as an exceptional contender for the distinguished title of Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series.
‘Interview With the Vampire’
Despite being one of this year's hidden gems, A&E's adaptation of Anne Rice's novel was unfortunately overlooked, which is indeed disappointing. However, it's no surprise considering the captivating performances by Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson as vampires Lestat and Louis, respectively. Additionally, Bailey Bass delivered a flawless portrayal of the teenage bloodsucker Claudia. The period costumes alone deserved recognition, at the very least.
