Why House Of The Dragon's Reduced Episode Count Is A Good Thing

Game of Thrones deviated from its traditional ten-episode format with season 7 having only seven episodes and season 8 even shorter with just six episodes. These seasons have generally been considered the weakest in the series, with season 7 signaling a decline in quality. The reduction in episodes ultimately led to hurried storytelling, causing many significant storylines to be poorly executed in the final seasons.
Game of Thrones had a reduced episode count in order to finish quickly, whereas House of the Dragon is reducing its episode count for the opposite reason. Instead of rushing, House of the Dragon is focused on taking its time and ensuring that the story progresses at a suitable pace, with significant plot developments feeling earned. Condal's decision aims to provide a strong opening and ending for House of the Dragon season 2, which may not have been as effective with ten episodes.
