Superman: Legacy is not being delayed due to the recent Hollywood writers and actors strikes. Director James Gunn has confirmed that the DC superhero film is still set to premiere on July 11, 2025. Gunn, who now oversees DC Studios, expressed gratitude to the dedicated crew for their unwavering commitment during the longest strikes in Hollywood history. He praised their exceptional work in creating remarkable character and set designs, stating that Superman: Legacy will be released as originally planned.
Several other studios have made changes to the release dates of their superhero movies. For example, Marvel Studios recently announced that Deadpool 3 and Captain America: Brave New World will be postponed to July 26, 2024, and February 14, 2025, respectively. It is worth noting that Marvel Studios will only have one movie coming out in theaters next year.
In June, Gunn found the actor to play Man of Steel in Superman: Legacy, casting David Corenswet from The Politician. Additionally, Rachel Brosnahan from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel will portray Lois Lane. (Jacob Elrodi from Euphoria recently revealed that he declined an audition for the film.) A few months later, in August, Gunn denied rumors of him working on a young Superman movie.
Superman: Legacy was announced in January as part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, which will help launch a new DC slate led by Gunn and his co-head at DC Studios, Peter Safran. The slate will also feature Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and The Brave and the Bold.
