James Gunn, the director of Superman: Legacy, hinted at the introduction of Krypto the Superdog, one of Superman's formidable allies from the comic books. Superman: Legacy, which is part of the new DCU project envisioned by Gunn and Peter Safran, will focus on a younger Superman as he grapples with his identity and reconciles his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. In addition to the thrilling action and worldbuilding, the film will showcase various other superheroes, serving as the starting point for a fresh cinematic universe that aims to fully utilize Superman's vast array of allies, such as Krypto.

Gunn previously hinted that Krypto might make an appearance in Superman: Legacy during his discussion about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 with Chris Pratt. Recently, Gunn further fueled the speculation by sharing two images on Threads. The first image showcases Nora, the art department dog, looking dapper in an outfit inspired by Superman. The second image provides a wider view of the office, where a few posters can be seen in the background. One of the posters is a commemorative artwork celebrating the 50th anniversary of Superman. Additionally, there are two other posters displayed—one featuring the cover of Superman (Vol. 1) #712: "Lost Boy: A Tale of Krypto the Superdog" from 2011, and the other showcasing Adventure Comics #210, Krypto's first appearance in 1955. These posters serve as strong indications that Krypto will potentially join the DC Universe.

The new pictures received a lot of praise from fans, with many commenting on Nora and sharing pictures of pets dressed similarly. Other members of the Threads community also noticed the posters and had positive discussions about their significance. Unlike Batman's dog companion Ace, Krypto is a highly regarded member of the DC hero roster. He recently starred in the widely popular animated film League of Super-Pets, with Dwayne Johnson providing his voice for the main character. Although the film may not be considered canon, it has played a significant role in boosting Krypto's popularity.

While there may be challenges in bringing Krypto to life in a live-action film, Gunn could potentially overcome them by following the example set by the animated movie and making necessary changes to the character from the comics. This would ensure a better fit for the medium and the intended story. It remains unknown whether or not Krypto will be included in the final version of Superman: Legacy, but fans can remain optimistic and look forward to the possibility.
