Creature Commandos, the inaugural project of the DC Universe, has experienced a setback.
Bobbypills, the animation studio involved in the project, confirms the disappointing news of a timeline shift, announcing a delay in the release of the animated series from 2024 to 2025.
The initial project of the new DC Universe, Creature Commandos, has received a disappointing update. James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has penned all episodes of the DCU's inaugural project. Originally set to premiere in 2024, it now appears that this may no longer be the case. Interestingly, Gunn confirmed that Creature Commandos was not impacted by the recent Hollywood strikes. According to Bobbypills, the animation studio behind the series, the release of the animated DCU show has been pushed back from 2024 to 2025, making it the starting point for Gunn's DC Universe.
Apart from the delay in witnessing the dynamic lineup of Creature Commandos in action, there was additional information announced during the animation studio's presentation. It was disclosed that each episode of the series will have a duration of 22 minutes, comprising a total of seven episodes.
Why Creature Commandos Releasing In 2025 Is Better For The New DCU
With the release of Superman: Legacy in 2025, the delay of Creature Commandos doesn't seem as detrimental. The new DCU can establish a strong presence by launching both its first TV series and movie in the same year, addressing its urgent need for a promising beginning. With Gunn and Peter Safran's 10-year plan for DC already underway, it is crucial for the universe to gain momentum from the start to ensure the realization of all the planned projects. While Gunn has revealed only a few projects for the DC Universe's Chapter One, there are still some kept under wraps.
Gunn's decision to release the first two projects in the DCU in the same year is more exciting for fans compared to watching the short Creature Commandos series and then waiting a year for more content. Additionally, the delay of Creature Commandos creates an important gap between the old DCEU and Gunn's DCU, which is necessary after years of controversies. The DCEU will come to an end in 2023, with all movies prior to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom underperforming.
By delaying Creature Commandos, DC allows fans to have time to let go of their issues with the DCEU and start to miss DC movies and series. The combination of Gunn-led DCU projects in 2025, including Creature Commandos and Superman: Legacy, will bring DC back with a big impact. While there may be a longer wait for the start of the DCU after the delay of Creature Commandos, this decision will result in a stronger first year for the DCU.

As a Gen Z fan, I'm both disappointed and excited about the delay of Creature Commandos. On one hand, I was really looking forward to seeing the animated series and how it would fit into the new DCU. On the other hand, I think the delay might actually be a good thing for the DCU.
It gives them more time to work on the series and make sure it's the best it can be. Plus, it means that we'll get to see Superman: Legacy and Creature Commandos in the same year, which will be a huge event for DC fans. I'm confident that the wait will be worth it and that Creature Commandos will be a great addition to the DCU.
