Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin no longer play vampire and fairy lovers on True Blood, but they still love working together. Moyer, 54, shared with We on Friday, March 22, that filming with Paquin, 41, on A Bit of Light is a thrill for them. "We know each other inside out," he said. "We've been working together for many years as actors and producers."
Moyer, the director of the new film based on Rebecca Callard's screenplay, mentioned that there is a special understanding with Paquin on set.
He shared, "There are times when I'll glance over at her and she'll simply say, 'I'll do another take.' She instinctively knows when she needs to adjust something. This allows me to trust her to make those changes on her own because she is skilled at figuring out what needs to be different."
Moyer shared that when he offers a note during a scene, Paquin is quick to understand and make adjustments even before he finishes speaking. He mentioned, "I can go in and say one word and she'll just go, 'Stop. Got it.'"
Moyer and Paquin first met while portraying Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse on the television series True Blood, which aired on HBO from 2008 to 2014. The couple got married in 2010 and became parents to twins, a son and a daughter, two years later.

The director, who is originally from England, has worked with Paquin on multiple projects. He directed her in three episodes of True Blood, where he made his directorial debut. Additionally, he directed the 2018 movie The Parting Glass and two episodes of her show Flack in 2020.
Despite their busy schedules with acting and directing, when the couple collaborates on projects, it doesn't cause any problems in their household.
Moyer explained to Us that there are no downsides when they work together because it allows both him and Anna to be present for their kids at the same time. He mentioned that in the past, their kids would go with Anna while the dogs stayed with him when they worked on different projects.
When working together as a couple, Moyer mentioned that their kids always come along. He emphasized the importance of having both parents present for their children, rather than being separated in different locations like an Australian village, Toronto covered in snow, or Vancouver in the rain. It's comforting for the kids to have both parents around.
Moyer also mentioned that he looks forward to seeing his kids after work. He shared that directing his wife, Paquin, on the set of A Bit of Light felt like the right thing to do. In the film, Paquin portrays the character of Ella, a nearly 40-year-old woman who moves back into her father's house to work on staying sober and regaining custody of her children.
"Anna is not afraid to tackle challenging roles, especially those involving trauma," Moyer commented, acknowledging his bias as her husband. "In this movie, her character is portrayed at her lowest point, facing rock bottom."
Moyer noted that after Ella settles into her new routine, her life may seem dull, but he found this simplicity appealing in the storyline.
"People like that never get seen in the films, it's the boring part where she doesn't feel like she deserves it," he said. "Anna brings this quality of not seeking the audience's approval, which is rare to see."
A Bit of Light will premiere in theaters on Friday, April 5, and will also be available on demand and digitally on the same day.
