John Boyega has risen to prominence as gang leader Moses in 2011's Attack the Block, and has gone on to appear in projects including Detroit, Small Axe, The Woman King, and the Star Wars franchise. In the latter, Boyega portrayed former Stormtrooper Finn from The Force Awakens through The Rise of Skywalker. These roles have made Boyega a popular fan-cast for a number of MCU roles, including those in Black Panther, Blade, and now as Kang the Conqueror.

However, the actor has been steadfast in his refusal to join the MCU, most notably in a 2022 interview with Men's Health, in which he noted an MCU role wasn't in his vision.
Responding to an MCU casting question on a November 2023 X post showing him and Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie together, Boyega posted a GIF of Shrek's Donkey, denying wanting to be cast as the MCU's new Kang the Conqueror.
John Boyega's tumultuous history with Disney and Lucasfilm is well known, as the actor has previously been outspoken against the studios with criticisms regarding their handling of Star Wars' first Black lead. Boyega's comments and history with Disney suggests that Marvel Studios will have to keep hunting if a recast is the direction the studio is planning for the Multiverse Saga's Kang the Conqueror.
