Star Wars: Hunters, the free-to-play arena battler from Zynga set in the beloved Star Wars universe, has encountered another delay. The game, which was initially planned for release this year, has now been rescheduled for 2024.
In an announcement on X (previously known as Twitter), the developer expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic reception from players in regions where the game had a soft launch. They further explained that in order to ensure a successful global launch, several new features - such as ranked mode and improvements to fundamental gameplay mechanics - need to be implemented.
Zynga acknowledges that game delays can be frustrating for both fans and developers. However, they emphasize that their main priority is to ensure players have the best possible experience on Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS devices.
Star Wars: Hunters made its initial appearance during a February 2021 Nintendo Direct, with plans for a release later that same year. While the game did launch in a few select regions, such as the Philippines, in 2021, Zynga recently announced that the worldwide release would be delayed until 2023.
The exclusive Nintendo Switch console game, Star Wars: Hunters, is set to be released in 2024. It will also be available on mobile devices. Zynga, the game's developer, has not provided a specific release date for the game within the year 2024.
Star Wars: Hunters by Zynga features a diverse lineup of playable characters. These characters are divided into three class roles--Tank, Damage, and Support--and each possesses unique abilities, ultimate attacks, and weapons. The characters range from two Jawas stacked together to Grozz, a formidable Wookie, and Rieve, a Dark Side assassin armed with a lightsaber. Players can choose their favorite character to participate in 4v4 battles across multiple maps and three game modes. One of these modes, Huttball, was originally introduced in Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Star Wars: Hunters has undergone frequent updates during its soft launch phase. In a significant update in May, the game was made available to players in Mexico and Brazil, along with the revamping of its existing climbing feature. This update also introduced the ability for player characters to jump, indicating that Zynga's commitment to incorporating essential gameplay elements remains strong prior to the full release of Star Wars: Hunters.
In 2024, Star Wars: Hunters will not be the sole game set in the expansive Star Wars universe to debut. Ubisoft's Star Wars: Outlaws is also scheduled for release in the same year.
Editor's P/S
As a hard fan of Star Wars, I am both excited and disappointed by the news of Star Wars: Hunters' delay. On one hand, I am thrilled that the developers are taking the time to ensure that the game is the best it can be. I have been eagerly anticipating this game since it was first announced, and I want it to be a success. On the other hand, I am disappointed that I will have to wait even longer to play it.
I understand that delays are sometimes necessary, and I am willing to be patient if it means that the game will be better for it. I am confident that Zynga will deliver a high-quality game that is worth the wait. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy the other Star Wars games that are available, and I will keep my fingers crossed for a 2024 release of Star Wars: Hunters.
