Star Trek: Prodigy Unveils an Epic Cast and Familiar Voyager Characters in Seasons 1 & 2

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will bring back the young voice cast from season 1, along with fan-favorite characters from Star Trek: Voyager.

Originally canceled by Paramount+ in June 2023, the show is now set to stream on Netflix. Season 1 is expected to debut in late 2023, followed by season 2 in 2024. The narrative revolves around a group of teenage aliens who break free from a slave world and embark on a journey to understand Starfleet's principles, guided by Hologram Janeway. Ultimately, their efforts lead to the salvation of both Starfleet and the entire galaxy.

The entire young voice cast from season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy will be returning in season 2, along with some beloved characters from Star Trek: Voyager. Star Trek: Prodigy is a collaboration between CBS/Paramount and Nickelodeon. The show originally premiered on Paramount+, but was unexpectedly canceled in June 2023. However, thanks to dedicated fan support, the all-ages animated series was saved and will now be streaming on Netflix. Season 1, which consists of 20 episodes, will be available on Netflix starting in late 2023. Then, in 2024, a new batch of episodes for Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will be released on the platform.

Star Trek: Prodigy takes place in the Delta Quadrant of the late 24th century. It revolves around a group of six alien teenagers who escape from the slave world of Tars Lamora and take control of the USS Protostar. Under the guidance of Hologram Janeway, voiced by Kate Mulgrew, the crew learns about the values of Starfleet. In season 1, a complex time travel storyline unfolds, with the Vau N'Akat from an alternate 25th-century timeline attempting to destroy Starfleet in the 24th century. With the assistance of Admiral Kathryn Janeway, also voiced by Kate Mulgrew, the Protostar's crew saves Starfleet and the galaxy. This leads to questions about their future in season 2, as the young heroes arrive on Earth with the hope of enrolling in Starfleet Academy. Brett Gray As Dal R'El

Kate Mulgrew had a dual role in Star Trek: Prodigy season 1. She first portrayed Hologram Janeway, the virtual training program aboard the USS Protostar, before Admiral Janeway officially joined the series. As Vice Admiral Janeway pursued the Protostar across the Delta Quadrant, she became acquainted with the young crew and recognized their potential as Starfleet members. Janeway promoted them to warrant officers and embarked on a new mission in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 to rescue Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) from an alternate future. This mission took place aboard her new starship, the USS Voyager-A. In addition to reprising her renowned role from Star Trek: Voyager, Kate Mulgrew has also appeared in Orange Is The New Black and Mr. Mercedes.

At just 17 years old, Dal took charge and became the self-proclaimed leader and Captain of the USS Protostar's crew. Throughout the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy, Dal discovers that he has been genetically modified, with his DNA incorporating traits from various species, granting him a multitude of abilities. Unfortunately, Dal's augmented nature poses a significant obstacle to his dream of joining Starfleet Academy, as the United Federation of Planets strictly prohibits eugenics. Despite his confident and rebellious demeanor, Dal possesses a kind-hearted nature and is actively learning the ropes of leadership. Moreover, he shares a cherished bond with Gwyndala (played by Ella Purnell). Prior to his role in Star Trek: Prodigy, Brett Gray showcased his talent in the popular Netflix series, On My Block, and also made appearances on Chicago P.D.

Gwyn, the 17-year-old daughter of the Diviner (John Noble), has defied her father and his nefarious plot to dismantle Starfleet. Opting to take action, Gwyndala made the bold decision to bid farewell to her comrades and Starfleet Academy, embarking on a journey to the Vau N'Akat homeworld of Solum. Her mission is to avert the tragic future that ensues following Starfleet's momentous First Contact. It should be noted that Ella Purnell, a renowned British actress renowned for her roles in Yellowjackets, Sweetbitter, and Army of the Dead, portrays this determined protagonist.

Rylee Alazraqui As Rok-Tahk

At just 8 years old, Rok-Tahk, a Brikar, was originally assigned as the Security Chief on board the USS Protostar due to her impressive size and strength. However, this sweet young individual surprised everyone by showcasing an exceptional talent for the sciences. As a result, Rok-Tahk assumed the more fitting role of Science Officer. With a deep passion for scientific exploration, Rok-Tahk aspires to further her studies at Starfleet Academy. It is worth mentioning that Rylee Alazraqui's debut in voiceover acting is through her portrayal of Rok-Tahk in Star Trek: Prodigy.

: Zero, a noncorporeal and genderless energy-based lifeform from the Medusan species introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series, wears a containment suit in the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. Zero, serving as the troubleshooting genius of the former Protostar crew, is pursued by the Diviner and Drednok. To enhance Zero's abilities, Starfleet has provided an upgraded containment suit. A renowned British actor, Angus Imrie, known for his roles in The Crown, Fleabag, and War of the Worlds, portrays Zero in this thrilling series.

Jankom Pog, a resourceful engineer with a strong personality, is a 16-year-old Tellarite. Although lacking knowledge about his own race, Jankom discovered that the Tellarites were original members of the Federation, leading him to believe that he possesses a royal lineage within Starfleet. Jason Mantzoukas, known for his roles in Parks and Recreation, The Good Place, and Infinite, is a talented actor and comedian.

Dee Bradley Baker As Murf

Murf, initially a friendly purple alien blob, underwent a transformation into a more humanoid figure following the release of Star Trek: Prodigy season 1, which unveiled his true identity as a Mellanoid slime worm. Despite lacking a known language, this adorable being proves to be indestructible and communicates through a range of sound effects. In addition to this, Murf has played a pivotal role in saving the USS Protostar on multiple occasions. Noteworthy voiceover actor, Dee Bradley Baker, renowned for his contributions to various video games and animated series like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, aptly brings Murf to life.

John Noble As The Diviner

The ruler of Tars Lamora, known as The Diviner, sought to locate the USS Protostar by enslaving numerous alien youths. His cruel ambitions took a turn when a Vau N'Akat time traveler named Gwyndala emerged as his daughter and "progeny." Despite his diabolical plan to destroy Starfleet, The Diviner's priorities shifted, leading to his demise at the hands of Asencia (played by Jameela Jamil). John Noble, a renowned Australian actor famous for his roles in Fringe, Sleepy Hollow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow, brought The Diviner to life.

Jimmi Simpson As Drednok

: In the 25th century, a Vau N'Akat named The Vindicator, known as Asencia, traveled through time with the mission to destroy Starfleet. Disguised as a Trill Ensign aboard the USS Dauntless, Asencia later unveiled her true identity. Despite her failed plot, Asencia managed to escape with Drednok and may make a return in season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy. Notably, Jameela Jamil has previously appeared in The Good Place and Marvel's She-Hulk.

Drednok, a fearsome and lethal creation of Vau N'Akat technology, fulfills the role of The Diviner and Asencia's invincible robotic enforcer. Together with Asencia, Drednok remains at large, leaving the possibility of their return in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2. While Jimmi Simpson boasts an extensive acting career, he gained notable recognition for his portrayal in Westworld.

Captain Chakotay led the USS Protostar, initially undertaking a mission to address the complications left behind by the USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant. However, due to an unintended time-travel event, Chakotay found himself stranded on the planet Solum after he sent the Protostar back in time to ensure its safety against the Vau N'Akat. It is worth mentioning that Robert Beltran also appeared in the television series Big Love.

Thanks to a portable holo-emitter, The Doctor, previously known as the Emergency Medical Hologram of USS Voyager, can now journey independently. In the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Prodigy, Admiral Janeway appoints The Doctor as the mentor for her young warrant officers aboard the USS Voyager-A. It is worth mentioning that Robert Picardo, who portrays The Doctor, has also acted in Stargate SG-1 and Dickinson.

Dr. Erin MacDonald, also known as Doctor MacDonald, serves as an instructor at Starfleet Academy and holds the rank of Lt. Commander. She is the voice behind Star Trek's science advisor.

Commander Tysess, portrayed by Daveed Diggs, is the Andorian First Officer on the USS Dauntless, under the command of Admiral Janeway. Daveed Diggs, a Tony Award-winning actor, is widely recognized for his roles in Hamilton and Snowpiercer.

Jason Alexander plays Doctor Noum, the Tellarite Chief Medical Officer on the USS Dauntless. Despite his exceptional medical skills, Doctor Noum often exhibits a rather unpleasant bedside manner. Notably, Jason Alexander is well-known for his iconic portrayal of George Costanza in the hit sitcom Seinfeld.

Billy Campbell takes on the role of Thadiun Okona, a charismatic captain of a rogue freighter. Debuting in Star Trek: The Next Generation season 2, Okona also made a brief appearance in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2 before making his return in Star Trek: Prodigy.
