Summary

Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will bring back the young voice cast from season 1, along with fan-favorite characters from Star Trek: Voyager.

Originally canceled by Paramount+ in June 2023, the show is now set to stream on Netflix. Season 1 is expected to debut in late 2023, followed by season 2 in 2024. The narrative revolves around a group of teenage aliens who break free from a slave world and embark on a journey to understand Starfleet's principles, guided by Hologram Janeway. Ultimately, their efforts lead to the salvation of both Starfleet and the entire galaxy.

The entire young voice cast from season 1 of Star Trek: Prodigy will be returning in season 2, along with some beloved characters from Star Trek: Voyager. Star Trek: Prodigy is a collaboration between CBS/Paramount and Nickelodeon. The show originally premiered on Paramount+, but was unexpectedly canceled in June 2023. However, thanks to dedicated fan support, the all-ages animated series was saved and will now be streaming on Netflix. Season 1, which consists of 20 episodes, will be available on Netflix starting in late 2023. Then, in 2024, a new batch of episodes for Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will be released on the platform.

Star Trek: Prodigy takes place in the Delta Quadrant of the late 24th century. It revolves around a group of six alien teenagers who escape from the slave world of Tars Lamora and take control of the USS Protostar. Under the guidance of Hologram Janeway, voiced by Kate Mulgrew, the crew learns about the values of Starfleet. In season 1, a complex time travel storyline unfolds, with the Vau N'Akat from an alternate 25th-century timeline attempting to destroy Starfleet in the 24th century. With the assistance of Admiral Kathryn Janeway, also voiced by Kate Mulgrew, the Protostar's crew saves Starfleet and the galaxy. This leads to questions about their future in season 2, as the young heroes arrive on Earth with the hope of enrolling in Starfleet Academy. Kate Mulgrew had a dual role in Star Trek: Prodigy season 1. She first portrayed Hologram Janeway, the virtual training program aboard the USS Protostar, before Admiral Janeway officially joined the series. As Vice Admiral Janeway pursued the Protostar across the Delta Quadrant, she became acquainted with the young crew and recognized their potential as Starfleet members. Janeway promoted them to warrant officers and embarked on a new mission in Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 to rescue Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) from an alternate future. This mission took place aboard her new starship, the USS Voyager-A. At just 17 years old, Dal took charge and became the self-proclaimed leader and Captain of the USS Protostar's crew. Throughout the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy, Dal discovers that he has been genetically modified, with his DNA incorporating traits from various species, granting him a multitude of abilities. Unfortunately, Dal's augmented nature poses a significant obstacle to his dream of joining Starfleet Academy, as the United Federation of Planets strictly prohibits eugenics. Despite his confident and rebellious demeanor, Dal possesses a kind-hearted nature and is actively learning the ropes of leadership. Moreover, he shares a cherished bond with Gwyndala (played by Ella Purnell). Prior to his role in Star Trek: Prodigy, Brett Gray showcased his talent in the popular Netflix series, On My Block, and also made appearances on Chicago P.D.

Jankom Pog, a resourceful engineer with a strong personality, is a 16-year-old Tellarite. Despite his diabolical plan to destroy Starfleet, The Diviner's priorities shifted, leading to his demise at the hands of Asencia (played by Jameela Jamil). : In the 25th century, a Vau N'Akat named The Vindicator, known as Asencia, traveled through time with the mission to destroy Starfleet. Despite her failed plot, Asencia managed to escape with Drednok and may make a return in season 2 of Star Trek: Prodigy.
