Sportscaster Charissa Thompson had a feeling that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift would hit it off.

Thompson, 42, shared exclusively with We that Travis has been a close friend for a long time and she admires him as a person. She always wants to see him happy.

During an event at the Amazon MGM Studios upfront presentation, Thompson mentioned that she and her friend Erin Andrews have a podcast where they discussed their wish for Travis to find happiness. To their surprise, their wish came true. They believe that putting positive thoughts into the universe made it happen.

Thompson and Andrews discussed Swift on their "Calm Down" podcast in August 2023. Thompson, a big supporter of energy, expressed how happy she was to see Swift and her partner happy together.

Andrews mentioned to Taylor that besides rocking the world on The Eras Tour, she should reach out to their friend Travis, who is fantastic. The sportscasters, big fans of Swift, had been talking about rumors that Kelce, also 34, wanted to date the pop star. Kelce had expressed his desire to meet Swift and exchange phone numbers during her Eras concert in Kansas City on his “New Heights” podcast, but he was not allowed backstage.

Swift and Kelce began dating in private shortly after his podcast comments in July 2023. In December of the same year, Swift disclosed their relationship to TIME magazine.

Their romance was officially confirmed in September 2023 when Swift attended Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs home game against the Chicago Bears. She sat in a private box with Kelce's mom, Donna Kelce, and his friends.

Swift kept going to the Chiefs tight end’s NFL games, and this inspired her fans to start watching football more regularly.

Thompson shared, “It’s great to see Swifties becoming new football fans. Whenever someone criticizes Taylor, I think it’s positive that more women are getting into football. I started watching football because of my father, and it’s awesome to see a new generation enjoying the sport.”

She continued, "I believe it's a positive thing if young girls, and not just them, but also young boys and anyone new to her audience, are inspired by her. I don't see anything negative about it."

Swift has attended 13 of Travis' games, even going to February's Super Bowl LVIII, despite criticism from the "dads, Brads, and Chads" she mentioned in her TIME Person of the Year interview about the NFL's focus on her.

Travis is taking a break from football during the offseason and has joined Swift in Europe for the summer leg of her Eras Tour. He was last seen at her concert on Sunday, May 12 in Paris, where she incorporated several Chiefs-themed elements in her performance and costumes.

Thompson is getting ready to cover the 2024-2025 NFL season for Prime Video. He expressed his excitement for the upcoming Wild Card game. He mentioned that being able to cover a playoff game is a great opportunity for Amazon. Thompson reflected on the initial concerns about finding an audience, but he believes that the popularity of the NFL will always attract viewers.
