Fans of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 were thrilled with the gameplay footage showcased at the 2023 PlayStation Showcase. The new blue Venom strikes for Miles and Peter's Symbiote suit abilities were met with much enthusiasm. The accurate depiction of Kraven The Hunter's character design was a pleasant surprise, and fans were excited to see familiar faces on his tablet. Kraven was shown a view of New York City with images of Prowler, Wraith, and Black Cat, all of whom have been antagonists in the comics but may ally with the webslingers in the game, making them perfect targets for Kraven's hunt.
Black Cat, Prowler, and Wraith Could All Help Spider-Man
Insomniac's Spider-Man sequel may introduce new characters that fans might perceive as side villains, but a closer examination of the featured characters reveals that only one of them could be a possible boss to fight. In particular, Wraith, also known as Yuri Watanabe, Peter's former ally in the police department, seems to fit the bill. Yuri is consumed by the death of her fellow officers and the legal system's failure to keep criminals locked up. As a result, she has taken it upon herself to become a lethal protector of New York City by killing criminals who continue to commit crimes. This vigilante behavior will undoubtedly lead to conflict with Peter and Miles, who do not condone killing. However, as Peter's mental state becomes more unstable, there may be some common ground between them. Like the Punisher, Wraith is ultimately an anti-hero, only killing fellow criminals.
Wraith's tendency towards violence may make her an unlikely ally, but ultimately, her desire to protect people could make her a valuable asset to Miles and Peter. Similarly, The Prowler and Black Cat have both shown a willingness to assist their respective Spider-Men when needed, despite not considering themselves heroes. Insomniac has set up these characters for redemption and a potential journey towards heroism, making them potential friends rather than foes. It's possible that players will have the opportunity to team up with all three characters, with the potential for team-up moves and finishers, as seen in previous DLC and games. While Wraith may require new mechanics, it's likely that Insomniac was teasing characters who will fight alongside players, rather than against them.
Insomniac Games recently unveiled the release date and concept art for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 at Summer Game Fest. It was announced that Kraven will be targeting other characters in addition to the two Spider-Men, but their identities were kept under wraps. Fans speculate that the three vigilantes featured in the gameplay footage may be among those being hunted by Kraven. If Kraven succeeds in capturing or killing them, it could lead Peter and Miles into a dangerous encounter with a highly skilled and vengeful hunter. The game is set to release on October 20 for PS5.
