Skull Island: Rise of Kong is receiving a negative reception on social media, with many players calling it the worst game of 2023.
The game's underwhelming graphics and seemingly unfinished presentation have garnered attention on Twitter, sparking a chorus of discourage players from purchasing it. Drawing parallels to other poorly received titles like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Skull Island: Rise of Kong is widely regarded as a top contender for the title of the worst video game of 2023.
Even the mighty King Kong is unable to overcome the overwhelmingly negative reception that Skull Island: Rise of Kong is receiving on social media. Many players are already labeling it as the worst game of 2023. King Kong, a legendary monster in cinema, has inspired numerous video games, such as Donkey Kong and Rampage. Earlier this summer, indie studio IguanaBee Studios announced a brand-new game titled Skull Island: Rise of Kong, marking the Eighth Wonder of the World's first starring role since 2017's KONG VR: Destination Skull Island.
The announcement trailer for Skull Island: Rise of Kong showcased the iconic gorilla engaged in combat with dinosaur creatures called Deathrunners, set against vibrant jungle landscapes. The third-person combat mechanics appeared promising, and publisher GameMill Entertainment, known for their expertise in licensed video games such as Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, added further anticipation. While fans may not have expected Skull Island to surpass the success of the acclaimed 2005 King Kong movie tie-in, it seems that Kong's latest interactive adventure is receiving an even worse reception than anticipated.
Shortly after the release of Skull Island: Rise of Kong on PC and consoles this week, a Twitter user named RickDaSquirrel began sharing videos of the game, highlighting its disappointing graphics and incomplete presentation. The clips depicted various issues such as pop-up textures, low-resolution visuals, and even a still image replacing animated enemy dinosaurs. RickDaSquirrel strongly advised against purchasing the game, referring to it as a "complete scam" to charge $50 for such an unfinished title.
Many other social media users echoed RickDaSquirrel's opinion, labeling Skull Island: Rise of Kong as "low-effort shovelware" and comparing its graphics to those seen on the PlayStation 2 years ago. Some even went as far as saying it is worse than The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, a game heavily criticized for technical problems and questionable stealth gameplay upon its recent release. RickDaSquirrel himself expressed regret and apologized to the notoriously poorly-rated Godzilla game for the PS4, which was considered one of the worst games of 2018.
Unfortunately, King Kong finds himself in a similar predicament as his rival with the release of Skull Island: Rise of Kong. This highly anticipated video game has garnered early negative feedback on social media, leading many to believe it may be a strong contender for the title of worst game of 2023. Fans who were hoping for an action-packed experience worthy of the King Kong franchise will be disappointed, as Skull Island is currently making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The game is available to play on various platforms including Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
