Summary

Simon Pegg shuts down requests for sequels to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, emphasizing the need for new and challenging ideas instead.

Pegg perceives the inclination of audiences to embrace familiarity and desire repetition as a lackadaisical impulse.

Pegg and Edgar Wright intend to continue their collaboration on a fresh project that falls outside the bounds of the Cornetto trilogy, possibly delving into an alternative genre and tone.

Simon Pegg has made it clear that there will never be sequels to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. As an actor and co-writer of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, which includes those two films along with The World's End, Pegg believes that new and innovative ideas are what audiences should be looking for. While he appreciates the interest in continuing those stories, Pegg feels that it is important to move forward and explore different concepts.

Simon Pegg & Edgar Wright Will Still Collaborate Again

Despite the numerous requests we receive to create sequels for all three of those movies, I am hesitant to comply. It seems that people have a tendency to seek familiarity and readily accept more of the same, which I find somewhat lazy. Although I appreciate the flattering sentiment and the desire for more content, what we truly need is fresh material. We require new ideas that challenge and push boundaries. Interestingly, my personal favorite from the Cornetto trilogy is The World's End precisely because it deviates from being audience-friendly. Out of the three films, it is the darkest and most demanding. I relish the notion of placing the audience in an uncomfortable position, rather than allowing them to be indulged by the familiar. So, whatever our next endeavor may be, it will undoubtedly be a challenging one.

Simon Pegg's Shocking Revelation: The Real Reason Shaun of the Dead 2 & Hot Fuzz 2 May Never See the Light of Day

While Simon Pegg appears to be ruling out the possibility of sequels to Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End, he and Edgar Wright are set to collaborate on another project. The pair first joined forces on the cult TV show Spaced, and they have remained closely connected throughout their careers. In an interview, Pegg hinted at a new film with Wright that will deviate from the Cornetto trilogy. Although the anthology series lacks a shared narrative, it derives its name from recurring references to Cornetto ice cream cones and explores related themes centered around relationships.

The Cornetto trilogy consists of three films, each featuring a buddy comedy element set within a specific genre - zombie apocalypse, police procedural, and alien invasion. Themes of "the collective versus the individual" are also explored in these films, as stated by Pegg. However, according to his remarks, it appears that his next project with Wright will be a departure from their previous works, incorporating fresh and thought-provoking concepts that may not even fall under the comedy genre. Considering their past successes with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, it will be intriguing to witness their future collaboration once their schedules align.
