Musician María Elena Ríos has accused Marvel star Tenoch Huerta of sexual assault.
"I have a process for speaking out about this issue, which is why I am only addressing it now," the saxophonist stated in a tweet written in Spanish on June 11th. "I was afraid of the backlash I would receive from those who refuse to believe that someone they consider a SUPER HERO could be an abuser, manipulator, and sexual predator. @TenochHuerta, you abuse your power and I want to make that clear." Ríos went on to express how challenging it was for her to come forward about the emotional abuse and abuse of power she experienced, and identified Huerta, who is known for his role in the Marvel cinematic universe, as a sexual predator who is still admired by many.
"They say that in countries with deeply ingrained machismo, justice can be elusive. Even when faced with near-death experiences, victims' cries for justice are often ignored," she explained. "For me, fame and money are not the goal. I am capable of working hard to earn a living."

"I must address the false and baseless accusation that has been circulating about me. I unequivocally deny any wrongdoing and maintain that my relationship with Elena was always consensual and loving. Many others can attest to this fact. It is unfortunate that Elena has chosen to misrepresent our interactions after our relationship ended, both privately and in front of mutual friends."
"I engaged a legal team several months ago to take appropriate action and protect my reputation against these false and irresponsible accusations that can cause significant damage. Although I am not perfect, I know these allegations are baseless. While I am committed to personal growth, I must refute claims that are both offensive and untrue. I am grateful for the support of my loved ones and those who have stood by me. I appreciate everyone who is willing to examine the facts and avoid reaching hasty and unjust judgments."
Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta gained popularity in 2022 when he landed the role of Namor in the Black Panther sequel. Although he has not been confirmed to reprise his character in upcoming Marvel projects, Wakanda Forever hinted that fans may see more of Namor in the future.
