Zachery Ty Bryan's fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, has addressed the recent arrest of the Home Improvement actor. Cartwright, 30, released an exclusive statement to We, expressing her desire for the well-being of the father of her children. Bryan, 41, was taken into custody in Eugene, Oregon, on Friday, July 28, following allegations of a physical domestic dispute with another woman. He is facing charges of assault, robbery, and harassment, including two felonies and one misdemeanor.
Cartwright affirmed that trauma manifests itself in various ways and it is distressing to see how it can be misinterpreted. Having experienced it firsthand, she emphasizes that the reality hardly aligns with what has been portrayed. She humbly requests that people respect their privacy in order for them and their respective families to heal. Bryan and Cartwright publicly announced their engagement in November 2021. The couple is blessed with three children: Kennedy, born in April 2022, and twins Parker and Sequoia, born in May. It's worth noting that Bryan also has four children with his former wife, Carly Matros: twin daughters Taylor and Gemma, born in 2014, daughter Jordana, born in 2016, and son Pierce, born in 2019.
Bryan remains in police custody following his recent arrest. In October 2020, he was charged with felony strangulation, as well as misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault and interfering with making a police report, all related to an incident involving Faye.
According to an update in February 2021, Bryan reached a plea deal in which he agreed to plead guilty to menacing and fourth-degree assault, while the other charges were dropped. As part of the agreement, Bryan was given a three-year probation sentence, required to attend a violence intervention program, and committed to having no further contact with the victim. Despite the outcome, Bryan and Cartwright persisted in maintaining a relationship.
Bryan asserted during a June interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the 2020 incident had been exaggerated. He mentioned that the situation had escalated with loud arguments in a townhome with thin walls, but emphasized that it did not escalate to a significant physical altercation.
Bryan expressed, "In the end, the police pile on multiple charges in hopes of pressuring you into pleading guilty to something. I could have chosen to fight it, but that would have brought on additional stress and drama."
Just a month prior to the incident, Bryan made his separation from Matros public through an Instagram post that has now been deleted. Observant fans soon pointed out the similarities between Bryan's post and Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers' joint announcement of their split in July 2020.
Bryan later clarified his reasoning behind plagiarizing the post, sharing with THR in June, "I was at a loss for words and he was going through a similar situation. Although I don't personally know Armie, I admired how eloquently his statement was crafted, likely with the help of a publicist. That's why I decided to adopt his words."
