In her new memoir, The Woman in Me, Britney Spears delves into the end of her relationship with Justin Timberlake. At the time, Spears, 41, was on set filming a music video when she received a text message from Timberlake, 42, as revealed by an insider. Spears reflects on feeling utterly shocked and devastated by Timberlake's sudden decision to end their three-year relationship. Seeking solace, she returned to her hometown in Louisiana, where Timberlake later appeared with a framed handwritten letter.
According to an excerpt from The New York Times posted on Thursday, October 19, she mentioned being comatose in Louisiana while he was happily running around Hollywood.
Spears' upcoming book, set to be released on Tuesday, October 24, delves into the highs and lows of her career. In a memoire excerpt shared by People, Spears candidly discusses having had an abortion prior to her breakup with Timberlake.
Justin expressed his unhappiness about the pregnancy, stating that they weren't prepared to have a baby and that they were too young. Despite knowing that some people may criticize her, she agreed to not go through with the pregnancy. Although she isn't certain if it was the right choice, she shares that she wouldn't have made that decision on her own if it were up to her. Justin was certain that he didn't want to become a father. The couple, who first met on the set of The Mickey Mouse Club, dated from 1999 to 2002. Following their breakup, Timberlake raised eyebrows with his music video for the popular song "Cry Me a River," which insinuated infidelity on Spears' part.

Prior to Spears exploring her past in her book, Timberlake publicly apologized to her for potentially fueling the negative attention she faced in the public eye.
Issued via Instagram in February 2021 after the release of the New York Times documentary Freeing Britney Spears, Timberlake expressed deep remorse for any role he played in contributing to the problem. He specifically mentioned instances where he spoke out of turn or failed to advocate for what was right.
Acknowledging the flaws within the industry, Timberlake acknowledged that it favored the success of men, particularly white men, as it was intentionally designed that way.
Timberlake expressed his continued respect for Spears, despite feeling a sense of failure towards her. He acknowledged his privileged position as a man and emphasized the importance of speaking out. Recognizing his past ignorance, he vowed to never benefit from others' downfall again and committed to improving himself.
Before the release of The Woman In Me, a confidential source revealed that Timberlake would not be pleased with the book due to Spears' strong critique towards him. Another insider clarified that Spears is merely sharing her own perspective and truth.
“It’s not Britney’s intention to skewer anyone. She’s just going to relay the facts from her perspective,” the second source continued.
The Woman in Me hits shelves on Tuesday, October 24.
