Samuel L. Jackson discovered the importance of Marvel Studios' stringent efforts to prevent spoilers during his time filming The Avengers. Playing the role of SHIELD director Nick Fury, Jackson first joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008's Iron Man, delighting audiences with his appearances in subsequent films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Spider-Man: Far From Home. While Nick Fury has remained a steadfast presence throughout the years, it wasn't until the recent Disney Plus limited series Secret Invasion that fans were able to delve deeper into the character.
The actor has had a longstanding involvement with Marvel Studios, which has allowed him to witness their unwavering dedication to safeguarding the secrecy of the films' storylines. He recollects a specific incident that took place in 2012 when, during the filming of The Avengers, an individual from the production team leaked a watermarked script online for sale. This occurrence prompted the company to launch a determined pursuit in order to prevent the script from becoming public knowledge. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jackson exclaimed, "It was absolutely insane!"
The Pulp Fiction actor revealed that when Marvel Studios was in Canada filming, they staged a fake purchase of the script to catch the culprit. Once the identity of the person was discovered, they resigned and left the country. Since then, the studio has enhanced its security measures to prevent any potential leaks. In a more recent incident, Jackson and his Secret Invasion co-star, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, recalled an incident during the show's filming where a drone attempting to capture set images was successfully shot down. Jackson stated, "They found the drone operator and apprehended him."
These are not the only instances where spoilers have surfaced from the production set. Actors themselves have inadvertently revealed plot details on multiple occasions. Notably, Tom Holland has become notorious for accidentally leaking details about his movies. For example, during the promotion of Avengers: Infinity War, he unintentionally disclosed that Spider-Man and other characters would be venturing into space. In another incident, during a presentation for the same film, Holland prematurely revealed his character's fate by exclaiming "I'm alive!" assuming that the audience had already seen the movie, which was not the case.
Secret Invasion is now streaming on Disney Plus, with new episodes releasing every Wednesday.
