Shanna Moakler, 48, exclusively reveals that she engaged in a conversation about her past involvement with ex-fiancé Oscar De La Hoya in his HBO documentary, "The Golden Boy". Moakler eagerly participated in the interview, as she believed it would provide her with the opportunity to candidly share her perspective. However, she emphasizes that she has no existing connection with Oscar de la Hoya and has no interest in establishing one.
She adds, "My daughter's relationship with him is their own and it's between him and her, as she is now a young adult, and I won't comment on that."
Moakler also emphasizes her strong bond with her own children, including her son Landon, 19, and daughter Alabama, 17, whom she shares with her ex-husband Travis Barker. "I have a very close relationship with all of my children. Nothing will ever change that, even if we face challenges like any other family with teenagers," Moakler tells Us. "I love all of them unconditionally and will always be actively involved and supportive in their lives."
The Golden Boy, which premieres its two parts on Monday, July 24 and Tuesday, July 25, delves into De La Hoya's upbringing in East Los Angeles before his rise to becoming a bona fide boxing legend. This documentary also follows De La Hoya, now 50, as he reflects on his life and relationships. Warner Bros. Discovery provides a summary that highlights the Olympian's candid and personal interview in the program. Additionally, the documentary includes insightful commentary from various individuals, such as Moakler, his father Joel De La Hoya Sr., his siblings, and his children.
Oscar De La Hoya is a father to six children. Alongside his 24-year-old daughter from his previous relationship with Moakler, he also has a son named Jacob, 25, from Toni Alvarado and another son named Devon, 24, from Angelique McQueen. Additionally, Oscar co-parents with his estranged wife Milagros "Millie" Corretjer, sharing a 17-year-old son named Oscar, as well as daughters Nina, 14, and Victoria, 9. Recently, in January, he filed for divorce from Milagros after nearly seven years of separation.
Oscar and Moakler began dating in 1997 and got engaged a year later. However, their relationship ended in September 2000 when Moakler discovered footage of Oscar accompanying another woman to the Latin Grammys. Following their breakup, Moakler moved on with Blink-182 musician Barker, whom she married in October 2004. After the wedding, Barker became a stepfather to Moakler's daughter Atiana, who was 5 years old at the time. During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Oscar expressed gratitude towards Barker, mentioning that they have had multiple conversations and communicate about Atiana. "He's a good guy, and I appreciate what he has done," Oscar said.
Oscar acknowledged that he did not take the primary role in raising his children. He recognized and appreciated the efforts of Barker as a father figure for his daughter and Moakler as a mother to Atiana. He acknowledged his responsibility as a father, but expressed gratitude for what Barker and Moakler have done, particularly Barker's willingness to step up. Moakler and Barker were married and had two children before their divorce in 2008. Barker is now married to Kourtney Kardashian, who already has three children, and they are anticipating their first child together.
Barker and Moakler have since prioritized amicably coparenting Landon, Alabama and Atiana.
The Golden Boy premieres on HBO on Monday, July 24, at 9 p.m. and will be available to stream on Max.
