In a recent episode of Ahsoka, it was revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi, the typically rule-abiding Jedi, disregarded a rule during his time with the order.
Obi-Wan's rebellious nature, despite the Jedi's reputation for strict adherence to rules, adds complexity to his character and highlights his willingness to defy conventions in pursuit of what he deems right. This revelation demonstrates that even prior to the prequels, Obi-Wan was not always the epitome of a flawless Jedi.
In a recent episode of Ahsoka on Disney+, an additional layer of information was provided regarding an event from the Star Wars prequels. It was revealed that Obi-Wan Kenobi, known for his adherence to rules as a Jedi, had actually disregarded a noteworthy rule during his time with the order. How rebellious.
The Jedi are known for their strict adherence to the rules they have established. Considered the guardians of peace in the galaxy, both in their prime and even after their downfall, this order of warrior monks has commanded respect from many, while also drawing eye rolls from others. As a result, it is not surprising that the Star Wars universe has witnessed numerous instances of "Gray Jedi" who deviate from the traditional dogma but remain connected to the Force. The emphasis on following protocols can at times hinder the pursuit of doing what is morally right, leading many to occasionally bend these rules.
Obi-Wan, a renowned Jedi, always upheld the Order's principles to the highest extent. However, it seems that he may not have been the flawless "by the books" ambassador of peace that he portrayed himself to be. Screen Rant has pointed out an interesting revelation in a recent episode of Ahsoka, where the esteemed Jedi droid Huyang shed light upon certain methods employed by the Order. One such technique involved dropping out of hyperspace at a considerable distance from the planet they were approaching in order to avoid detection. Fans with a good recollection will remember that Obi-Wan Kenobi deviated from this procedure in a significant event in his adventurous journey.
In Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan disregards standard Jedi protocol by neglecting to scan the area for threats upon arriving at the planet Kamino. This showcasing of his rebellious nature is consistent with his character in the prequel trilogy. One notable example is his romantic relationship with Satine Kryze, Duchess of Mandalore, despite the Jedi Order forbidding such attachments. Obi-Wan goes as far as revealing that he would have left the Jedi if Satine had asked him to do so.
The mention of Ahsoka in this scene was probably intended as a casual piece of information about the Jedi Order. It is fitting that Huyang, who is programmed to follow the rules strictly, is the one to provide this exposition. However, this seemingly insignificant moment unintentionally reveals a glimpse of Obi-Wan's adventurous nature, even if it was relatively mild compared to his actions in Episode II. Obi-Wan is just one example of the many "non-traditional Jedi" who influenced Ahsoka and shaped her into the independent rule-breaker she becomes. Don't forget to catch new episodes of Ahsoka on Disney+ every Tuesday.
