This alternative conclusion would have paved the way for a potential John Wick: Chapter 5. In a recent interview with Empire, Stahelski revealed that the ending of John Wick: Chapter 4 originally lacked ambiguity regarding whether Wick survives or perishes. Below is Stahelski's complete statement:
"We initially had a distinct conclusion in mind, known as the theatrical ending, which both Keanu and I favored. However, we ultimately filmed an alternate ending, wherein John Wick was visibly present, confirming his survival. Interestingly, the test audiences overwhelmingly expressed a preference for the enigmatic conclusion."
