John Wick Franchise Goes Into Overdrive with Fifth Installment

John Wick fans can rejoice as the franchise continues its action-packed journey with the highly anticipated John Wick 5 in the works Exciting updates hint at the arrival of The Continental and Ballerina, promising an even busier future for the franchise

Lionsgate has officially announced that a fifth installment of the highly successful John Wick franchise is currently in development. This exciting news comes following the tremendous success of the latest release, John Wick: Chapter 4, which has grossed an impressive $428.8 million in box office revenue to date. This achievement marks the highest earnings for any John Wick film and further solidifies the franchise's profitability for many years to come.

In a recent earnings call, Lionsgate (via Comicbook) confirmed the development of John Wick 5 as well as other exciting projects that will expand upon the beloved John Wick universe. Fans can also look forward to upcoming spinoffs and even a John Wick video game. During the call, Motion Picture Group chairman Joe Drake expressed his enthusiasm for the franchise's bright future.

Our focus now extends beyond the AAA video game space, as we aim to establish a robust franchise with a steady stream of spin-offs and television shows. We are pleased to announce that Ballerina, the first spin-off, will be released next year. In addition, we are currently developing three more spin-offs, including the highly anticipated John Wick 5, as well as a television series called The Continental that will be airing soon. By expanding the world and exploring different narratives, we are organically growing towards the fifth installment of the John Wick series. Fans can expect a regular flow of content in the John Wick universe.

With the confirmation of John Wick 5 and multiple spinoffs, it is clear that the franchise is only just beginning to expand its horizons. The Keanu Reeves-led movies will now be accompanied by The Continental, a prequel miniseries set in the 1970s. Meanwhile, Ballerina will follow Ana de Armas' Rooney on her personal quest for revenge, taking place between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Fans can look forward to The Continental premiering on Peacock in September 2023, while Ballerina is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2024.

Lionsgate has confirmed that John Wick's story will continue with the development of John Wick 5, despite director Chad Stahelski's uncertainty about the project. The potential for a direct sequel to John Wick: Chapter 4 also raises questions about John's fate, as the previous film seemingly saw him die. If John Wick 5 follows directly from Chapter 4, it could suggest that John faked his death to evade his enemies.

In addition to the continuation of John's story, the John Wick universe is set to expand with a spinoff featuring Donnie Yen's Caine and Rina Sawayama's Akira. The post-credits scene in John Wick: Chapter 4 hinted at Akira seeking revenge on Caine for killing her father, but it remains to be seen how their conflict will be resolved. Furthermore, producer Erica Lee has confirmed the development of another film set in the John Wick universe, as well as a video game and multiple spinoffs. With so much in the works, the future looks bright for the world of assassins that John Wick has brought to life.
