Before hitting the stage at Coachella in 2024, the 24-year-old singer decided to drop a new single along with a music video featuring a sun-kissed vibe. In the video, Carpenter bids farewell to a creepy guy by swiping his credit card and then enjoys a retro beach vacation with VIP treatment, manicures, and poolside relaxation. To top it off, Carpenter fulfills her Gidget fantasy by dancing on a surfboard held up by a group of handsome hunks.
Carpenter sings in the song about how he thinks of me every night and finds it sweet. He mentions how I can't sleep and he knows that it's because of him, like an espresso.
Unfortunately, the fun times come to an end when the police arrive due to credit card fraud being a crime. The disappointed culprit demands his card back, but Carpenter is unable to escape. The police arrest her and she is put in the back of the car. As the situation unfolds, a different song starts playing on the police car's loudspeaker, teasing the arrival of more new music.
Carpenter's humor shines through in her song "Espresso," as she playfully sings about being a singer working late. She adds a touch of sarcasm as she mentions how cute her partner looks wrapped around her finger. Her twisted humor often makes him laugh, likening herself to a honeybee collecting pollen.
Carpenter recently spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 about the creation of her song "Espresso." She mentioned that the song was written in France, which added a certain inspiration to its vibe. The excitement and energy in the song reflect the feeling of traveling the world.
She revealed that writing the song was a quick process, resulting in a fun and lively track. The song's personality shines through, making it a joy to perform live and connect with the audience.
Carpenter is set to perform at Coachella and will have the opportunity to sing “Espresso” to the crowd. Her first performance will be on Friday, April 12, followed by another performance on April 19. Carpenter will take the stage at 6 p.m. PST, right after Young Miko and before Lil Uzi Vert. Peso Pluma will perform next, leading up to the headliner of the day, Lana Del Rey, who is scheduled to play at 11:20 PST.
