The upcoming film Mayday, which is being kept under wraps in terms of plot and character details, has been billed as an action-adventure tentpole. The original pitch from Goldstein and Daley suggests that it may be in the same vein as films like Romancing the Stone and Indiana Jones. With Reynolds in the lead, audiences may be reminded of his previous work in Red Notice, an action-adventure film featuring Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. The role that Branagh will play has yet to be revealed, but it is possible that he could portray either an antagonist or a sidekick to Reynolds' character.

Apple and Skydance have been strengthening their partnership for some time now. Skydance Animation is slated to be a major part of Apple's animated efforts moving forward, with the main studio having already produced Ghosted starring Ana de Armas and Chris Evans. While the film received criticism from both critics and audiences alike, it still managed to become Apple TV+'s most-watched feature film debut. The two companies also collaborated on Peter Farrelly's The Greatest Beer Run Ever, which starred Zac Efron, Russell Crowe, and Bill Murray.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance will partner with Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort, to produce the film. Reynolds has assembled a talented team including Johnny Pariseau, Ashley Fox, and Patrick Gooing. Maximum Effort has previously worked with Apple on Spirited and with Skydance on The Adam Project.
