Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s birthday prank wars are still going strong, and now even their families are joining in on the fun.
McElhenney, 47, took to X on Sunday, April 14, to share his surprise when he saw a shirtless drawing of himself next to his dad, Robert. The hilarious image was a birthday gift commissioned by Reynolds, also 47, for his co-chairman at Wrexham.
The actors started their friendship by purchasing the Wrexham Football Club together. They have since enjoyed teasing each other on their birthdays. This year, Reynolds surprised McElhenney with a Titanic-themed drawing.
Reynolds shared in an Instagram video that April 14th is both McElhenney's birthday and the day the Titanic sank. To celebrate, Reynolds funded an expedition to the ocean floor to recover some bottles of Wrexham Lager from the ship's maiden voyage. They planned to use the lager for a special birthday toast.
Reynolds explained that he posted the message a day early because it was already Sunday in Wrexham — which is located in Wales.
"We couldn't find any drinkable Wrexham Lager, but we found something even better," Reynolds shared. He proudly displayed a drawing of a shirtless McElhenney, reminiscent of Jack's drawing of Rose in the movie Titanic.
In the drawing, McElhenney was wearing a Wrexham team logo pendant instead of the heart of the ocean. Reynolds mentioned that merchandise featuring the drawing is up for sale, and the original artwork will be showcased at the Tŷ Pawb Gallery in Wrexham.
“Didn’t miss a single chest hair. Amazing,” McElhenney commented on Reynolds’ Instagram post.

McElhenney received an extra special birthday present in the form of Wrexham's promotion to League One. This marks the team's second promotion under the actors' ownership. Prior to this, Wrexham had achieved promotion to League Two in April 2023, their first in 15 years.
A few years ago, if someone had told me that I would be shedding tears of joy over a football match happening in North Wales, I probably wouldn't have believed it. But here I am, feeling overwhelmed with happiness as Wrexham emerged victorious with a stunning 6-0 win against Forest Green Rovers. Huge congratulations to Wrexham AFC and my partner in crime, @robmcelhenney. Let's double up the town! This journey is truly the thrill of a lifetime.
Wrexham's upcoming 2023-2024 season will be featured on FX's Welcome to Wrexham season 3, which is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, May 2nd. Get ready to witness all the excitement and action as our team embarks on another thrilling season.
