Rosario Dawson is getting ready for her new role as a grandmother after announcing that her 21-year-old daughter, Isabella, is pregnant with her first child. "It's very exciting," Dawson, 44, told Page Six on Wednesday, December 13, disclosing that Isabella is expected to give birth next year. The Ahsoka actress also revealed that she has chosen to be called "Glamma" by her grandchild.
In December 2014, we confirmed that Dawson had officially adopted Isabella, who was 12 years old. This decision had been in the works for several years as Dawson had always been very family-oriented and had envisioned herself raising a child. According to an insider, she wanted to have the same kind of bond with her daughter as she has with her own mother.
Dawson, who discovered at the age of 5 that her father Gary was not her biological father, shared in December 2018 that adoption had always been a part of her life plan.
"Growing up in the neighborhood I was raised in, I thought, 'Oh, so I could be like some of my friends who have single-parent households. That could be me,'" she told Us exclusively about her path to parenthood. "So I recall telling my mom at the age of 5 that when I grew up, I was going to adopt, and I was going to adopt older."
Once Isabella joined her family, Dawson remembered the importance of being fully present. "I'm selfish with as much time. ... I work a lot and I'm traveling, and I want her to be able to come with and do as much stuff with me as possible," she explained.
Rosario Dawson has made the decision to keep her daughter, Isabella, out of the spotlight as much as possible, despite the constant presence of her daughter. On occasion, the Haunted Mansion actress has shared some sweet snaps with Isabella on social media.
Dawson expressed her gratitude for her amazing GranDaddy-O in a heartfelt Instagram caption in June 2021, commemorating Father’s Day with a series of photos. The collection featured a selfie of the actress with her father and her daughter in front of a helicopter, as well as several snapshots of Isabella with her grandfather throughout the years.

This year, Dawson shared a unique update on Isabella, referring to her as "a mermaid like me," telling People in August that her daughter loves to relax in the sand during vacations.
"I adore her and she's truly a wonderful person. I admire her feminine qualities," Dawson expressed with enthusiasm. "She's always been this way - very romantic and deeply passionate about her jewelry and dressing up. But she's also the kind of girl who's not afraid to get her hands dirty and play in the mud, and that's what I love about her."
