Rob McElhenny, known for his role on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has opened up about his mental health. The actor, who plays the character Mac on the show, shared on Twitter that he has recently been diagnosed with various neurodevelopmental disorders and learning disabilities.

Despite stating that "it's not something I would typically discuss publicly," he felt compelled to disclose his diagnosis in order to offer support to others facing similar circumstances, reassuring them that they are not alone, unintelligent, or 'inferior.' Additionally, he mentioned his intention to provide further information regarding his complete diagnosis during an upcoming episode of The Always Sunny Podcast, a show he hosts alongside fellow It's Always Sunny cast members, Charlie Day and Glenn Howerton.
McElhenny is joining a larger movement to raise awareness about mental health and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness. In recent years, numerous celebrities have been open about their struggles, spreading awareness and understanding. A notable example is pop sensation Shawn Mendes, who made the decision to cancel the remainder of his 2022 tour last July in order to prioritize his well-being and come back stronger.
McElhenny's announcement coincides with his career reaching new heights, providing a greater platform to promote his message. Alongside the ongoing season 16 of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," McElhenny is also starring in the popular docuseries "Welcome to Wrexham" alongside Ryan Reynolds. The series chronicles their journey of purchasing and revitalizing a struggling football club in Wales.
"Welcome to Wrexham" has already been confirmed for a second season. Additionally, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has been renewed for both season 17 and season 18. Given that "Wrexham" portrays the real-life McElhenny and he plays a significant creative role in "Sunny," there is a possibility that he will use this opportunity to address mental health on one or both shows, as well as through his social media platforms.
