Windows has been familiar with granular volume mixing for a long time. Although adjusting the volume slider usually suffices, there are instances where you may need to fine-tune the volume for specific applications. Fortunately, the forthcoming Windows 11 update will make this process even more convenient.
Windows 11's latest Insider build, version 23493, introduces a new volume mixer conveniently integrated into the Quick Settings menu. To access it, simply select it from the Quick Settings menu or use the shortcut Win + Control + V. Within the volume mixer, you can effortlessly choose your output device, adjust spatial audio settings, and manually control the global volume of your PC, as well as adjust the volume of specific apps.
Previously, these granular volume adjustments had to be made manually through the Settings menu. However, with this new feature, you can easily modify the volume to your preference directly from the Quick Settings pane, eliminating the need to navigate through the Settings menu or perform any additional steps. The inclusion of a keyboard shortcut further streamlines the process.
If you want to check it out, it’s now available on the latest Insider build on the Dev branch — regular users will need to wait a few months.
