Final Fantasy 14 is introducing a second dye slot, allowing players to mix and match multiple colors on their gear and housing decorations, expanding customization options.
In the upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, players can expect not only an increased level cap and new job additions but also the exciting inclusion of eyeglasses as a fashionable gear slot.
Dawntrail brings a visually enhanced experience to Final Fantasy 14, with improved models, environments, and lighting. While PC players may need slightly higher system requirements, support for PS4 remains unchanged, and the game will also become available on Xbox Series X/S in Spring 2024.
Final Fantasy 14 is introducing an additional dye slot for the majority of items and decorations within the game. This exciting update will greatly enhance the options for players to customize the colors of their glamours and homes in Final Fantasy 14.
In a recent announcement, Final Fantasy 14 revealed Dawntrail, its fifth expansion pack following A Realm Reborn. Players will be transported to Tural, a continent commonly referred to as the New World, where the level cap will be raised to 100. Alongside this, two new DPS jobs will be introduced to the game.
During the announcement, Final Fantasy 14 unveiled various updates to the game, including a significant revision to the dye system. Currently, each piece of gear and housing decoration that can be dyed is limited to one color. However, with the upcoming Dawntrail expansion, most of these items will receive an extra dye slot. This exciting change will allow players to combine and experiment with multiple colors on a single item, leading to a wide range of cosmetic customization options for their characters.
Similar dye systems are already in place in several other major MMORPGs, such as Guild Wars 2. In Guild Wars 2, gear can have up to four dye slots, which is one of the aspects that make its cosmetic system so compelling. With Final Fantasy 14 now adopting multiple dye slots, this renowned MMORPG's transmog system is making a significant stride in the right direction.
In addition to that exciting news, Final Fantasy 14 has revealed that characters will now have the option to wear eyeglasses, which will be a new gear slot. These eyeglasses will be purely cosmetic and will not affect the player's stats. Players can now enjoy accessorizing their characters with glasses or goggles, alongside helmets and other headgear. This means that raiders won't have to worry about collecting additional gear at endgame. Furthermore, Final Fantasy 14 will be raising the limits on furnishings sometime after the expansion release.
Dawntrail brings even more enhancements to Final Fantasy 14, starting with an impressive graphical update. Models, environments, and lighting will all receive a facelift in the expansion, and subsequent patches will continue to improve the visuals throughout the game. Due to this graphics update, the minimum and recommended system requirements for the PC version will slightly increase. However, Final Fantasy 14 will still support the PS4 for the foreseeable future. Additionally, exciting news is that Final Fantasy 14 will be available on Xbox, with the Series X/S consoles coming out of beta testing next spring alongside the launch of Dawntrail.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5 with an Xbox Series X/S version coming in Spring 2024.
