During Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, Hideo Kojima surprised fans with exciting news about Death Stranding. The renowned creator of the Metal Gear franchise revealed that the popular title will soon be available on Mac computers. Originally launched on PlayStation 4 in 2019, followed by a PC release in 2020, Death Stranding received a Director's Cut with significant improvements for PlayStation 5 in 2021, and later for PC in March of 2022.
Hideo Kojima has confirmed that Death Stranding: Director's Cut will be making its way to Mac later this year, although an exact release date has yet to be announced. The news was revealed during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, where the company also unveiled plans to introduce a "Gaming Mode" for Mac computers to optimize CPU and GPU usage for gaming sessions. Additionally, Apple has launched a new Game Porting Toolkit to simplify the porting process and reduce development time for game developers. While Mac users will have to wait patiently for Death Stranding, PlayStation 5 owners are eagerly anticipating news on Death Stranding 2, which was notably absent from Sony's recent PlayStation Showcase. However, speculation abounds that the sequel may be announced during Geoff Keighley's upcoming Summer Game Fest live event on June 8, given Keighley's close relationship with Kojima.
Kojima has plans to expand the Death Stranding IP beyond the gaming world. In addition to the game, a movie adaptation is also in the works, with Kojima Productions teaming up with Hammerstone Studios to bring the project to life. Kojima has stated that he is taking a unique direction with the movie adaptation, one that has not been attempted before. While Death Stranding: Director's Cut is currently available for PC and PlayStation 5, fans can also look forward to a Mac version coming later this year.
